M5 here. There are no "spreadsheets", we are a software company and we use our own software to monitor your performance, (https://mos-analytics.us.oracle.com for one example of many). The metrics that are measured are different for each org, and are defined by your org SVP (the managers 2 levels down from MH and SC at the M7 level). I have been here as an M5 for 12 years, have seen many layoffs in my tenure, and I have never been consulted as to whom I thought should be let go, although I do get about a week's advance notice whenever a RIF is coming in my org, with the only details being how many IC's and/or managers in each group under me were going to be let go so that I could come up with a plan to plug the gaps (and no, I have not been notified of an upcoming RIF in my org, but I only get notified about a week in advance). Someone above me is making those decisions and I have to believe it is based on the Business Intelligence metrics dashboards because nothing else seems to make any sense.
Why am I here telling you this? I am going to retire later this year. I didn't know about this site but stumbled upon it while surfing the net reading Oracle news stories to try to gauge the market to help me decide if now is a good time to cash in my stock options and just had to say something after reading all of the complete B.S. being propagated on here.
Some things that I have read here do have some truth:
-
Unless you are working in a software development group that is deemed "important" then a raise is most likely not in your future. Raises/bonuses at Oracle are far and few between.
-
Management in software development in some groups (not all) in my experience is exactly as I have read here. Thankfully I am not in one of those groups, and I avoid interacting with them like the plague. LE is once again becoming more engaged with development since TK's departure, but he needs to appoint someone that will clean house. He has too much on his plate to do it himself.
-
TK and AZ leaving was a great start, MH and SC need to go - they add no value and have no realistic vision for the future of Oracle. But unless they royally screw up somehow and are forced to leave, they won't be going anywhere anytime soon. Would you leave on your own if you were in their position? I know I wouldn't.
-
Oracle does not care about you, they don't care if you stay or if you leave. The world will not collapse, no matter how important you think you are to the company.
-
The decision for a RIF/Layoff seems to be ALWAYS based on what "upper management" (I don't know how high that is) thinks will improve the bottom line and increase the stock price so that their stock options are worth the max.
While some are complete B.S:
-
Anything that anyone says on here implying knowledge of an upcoming layoff is pure speculation, guessing. The people that have actual knowledge of a layoff don't know about this site and would never knowingly leak that information, they get paid too much to risk that.
-
LE, MH, SC, anyone in Oracle upper management, and HR management DEFINITELY do not know that this site exists, do not read the posts here, and could care less what is posted here even if they did know. I asked, believe me when I say that anyone in Oracle that matters does not know this site exists.
-
Oracle does not pay "trolls" or anyone in HR to monitor or post on this site. They wouldn't waste their time or money for that, why would they? They don't care about you.
-
Oracle is a massive company, with a huge number of employees, with a staggering amount of paying (whether willing or not) customers, and a massive bank account. Even if Oracle were to "die" it would take years and years for it to disappear, but in my opinion it's not going anywhere - it will be around for long, long time.
-
LE is not and will not be getting "margin calls" from the institutional lenders to whom he has pledged some of his stock as collateral, no matter how low the stock price drops (if it does). If you are one of the ones that has posted something like this, then hopefully you have already been RIF'ed. At least do a tiny bit of research before you post something so you know what you are talking about.
And here is the most sane advice that I have seen on here - do you like your job? Do you like what you are doing? Then keep doing it and quit worrying about getting laid off. If you don't, then find another job either within or outside of Oracle. If worrying about getting laid off is consuming you, then you picked the wrong industry.
Over and out, like I said I stumbled onto this site by accident and I won't be visiting again. I hope that something that I said helped you to gain some inner peace.
