Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

Possibly the worst HR in the finance industry

Dont bother discussing employment issues with HR. Good old HR, the yardstick of morality in employee relations? Do not believe that for a second. Beware of our HR staff, they are fully aware of the poor and sometimes unethical practices from our leaders - however HR is there to cover up, to lie and to protect our senior managers.

You do realize that HR folks are employees too. All the changes in policy including the new performance management curves affect them as well. There has been a high number of layoffs in HR and many are being treated very poorly. Nobody is immune.

HR is here to maximize human capital. They report to Charlie.

Monique was an advocate for employees because she thought that happy employees drove better productivity. Charlie may eventually get around to caring about employee happiness and health, but only when the ranks are smaller.

Right now Charlie’s mantra is to make the place so miserable that people quit....

Come on, people! HR is there to serve BNY! Not you! HR looks out for the employer, not the employee. Like it or not, it's been this way at every company I've ever worked for.

This is a bank located in the heart of lower Manhattan, and you'd figure we'd have a minimum prerequisite level of knowledge. Some posters in this thread make me think some people really needed letting go.

The board doesn't oversee HR anymore than shareholders do. In fact, if they got directly involved it would be considered an ethical violation.

Just as HR does not work for the employee, the board does not get involved in daily operations of the organization. That is the CEO’s function and the board is going to give him wide latitude to do his job, provided of course something doesn’t generate significant negative press as the WFH situation did in Europe. Rest assured that piqued the board’s interest. Other day-to-day matters, no. It’s simply not the function of the board.

If HR "works for the company", why has HR not raised unethical practices to the Board? Think about the number of contractual breaches, the WFH fiasco in the UK, dismissals, costly re-hires, rampant age discrimination. How has HR supported the company by turning a blind eye to these unethical practices?

HR doesn't work for the senior managers, and HR doesn't work for you. HR works for the company.
