This rumor was circulating around for quite some time, but I didn't make much of it until I saw it with my own two eyes. A colleague of mine was laid off in the last wave and I overheard our bos advising him to reapply for a job opening at our department , just on a different team. After a couple of weeks there he was. I know the general rule was to “sacrifice” a few younger employees to avoid age discrimination charges, but are they really going to that point where they are formally firing people and rehiring them back. Anyone witnessed anything similar?

If the ages of those cut is 10 years higher than those kept, that actually seems like PROOF of age discrimination.
If it were fair, the average ages would have been the same.
It seems like the systematic rehiring of younger workers is a blatant fraud that proves age discrimination. Even though older employees were given age statistics for their departments that showed the age of those cut vs the age of those kept was less than 10 years difference ... inviting younger employees to reapply for their jobs as they are being walked out should invalidate the releases older employees granted GM in terms of filing a law suit. It would seem there must be some sharp attorney considering a class action lawsuit about this fraud.
1nef- Because that would take away from the ego and empire building of the Sr Manager.
Why? Because they needed to get rid of enough people to play the game.
You have to get rid of the young in order to get rid of the old and make it lawsuit-proof.
What you do after that will fly under the radar of the media, and hopefully without drawing the attention of anyone in a position to bring a lawsuit.
If the problem was that some groups had too many people, and other groups needed people, why didn't they just transfer people between groups instead of laying off in one area and hiring in another?
What they did just shows total disregard and disrespect for employees.
Yes, it is happening.
I've had multiple sources inside GM, in different departments and locations, say it's happening.
I've talked to more than one recruiter that has said GM is hiring back the people they're trying to place.
I think it's budget cuts in some groups and how much your manager is willing to fight for employees to return if they are allowed to even bring people back.
Well I was a NCH 6 months in and I sure as hell did not get the call to get rehired.
P.S. I was a contract technician , just curious about a 6 level pay grades ? Thanks again , I'm needing a job , so if they are infact rehiring maybe I'll have a job again.
Does anyone know the average pay grade for a 6 level ? Thanks.
After being laid off I was offered a position. In a different department. So yes it's true.
Class action suit for age discrimination?
That's their plan. GM hired an attorney firm to deliberate the scheme. They picked people from every age group to cover the age discrimination. And then sneakily hire back the young people.
This is very true. Just saw an old colleague of mine who was fired during ISP, interview a week ago.
Doubtful, if true it would be grounds for lawsuit. Sounds like trolling.
I know a team that fired around 20 people and got half of them back. Very strange. Same level and everything
