Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

They achieved their goal

People have started quitting left and right. UP created work environment that is so bad that people are not even waiting to be laid off - they are running away from the toxicity and constant fear of losing a job unexpectedly on their own.

Which, when you think about it, works in UP's favor. So congrats, UP, job well done, I guess.

The job environment now is the same as it was when I hired on almost 20 years ago. Back then, you had to do everything you could to safeguard your job (keep meticulous notes of exactly what you do to which car and when) since they were constantly looking for ways to fire you. Depending on who the manager was, it got a little better over the years but now ... keep a notebook, grab your FRA handbook and CYA. The ONLY reason I am still here is my seniority but even I am looking.

If they can’t hire college grads, then their model of firing anyone old enough to get a pension and replacing them with a college kid on a 401k won’t work...

I really believe it has changed the way I look at dealing with other situations,in life, and NOT for the better.

Very true statement. I saw the writing on wall and with a heavy heart decided to leave. Guess what...found a higher paying job, no more shift work, weekends off, vacation right away and sick days. Plus the management actually honors the CBA's without a fight. We've all read it on here before from others about there being other jobs out there that are better fits that will welcome us with open arms, it is true! You just have to have a open heart and open eyes. There is nothing wrong with staying if it works for you, but if you're struggling or on the fringe it doesn't hurt to look. The RR retirement is great but the true value of a job that drastically improves your quality of life is priceless.

You need job security. We seem to be losing a lot of our best employees.

People are embarrassed to be associated with these evil and vile crooks who run the place. Geesch how rotten to the core can you be? Inevitably, the longer one associates with these types the more that individual starts growing into the model themselves. It's not a good place to be if you want to maintain your values and integrity. It WILL change you forever.

Job security is worth a lot to people. That security is probably one reason some people choose to come to work for UP only to be disappointed. I can’t blame a person for moving on and putting their piece of mind and family first! Jmo
