Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

What does the leadership expect to gain from the acquisition?

The logical answer would be the assets, I know. I mean aside from that. Why Anadarko and why now? There were a lot of oil companies that could have been bought and there are a lot of assets that oil companies are willing to sell. What made them choose Anadarko?

Well articulated. But does anyone believe a word these executives say?

Irlm is correct, not to mention for cheap. “To get the most we can possibly get for the least we can possibly pay.”

What does the leadership expect to gain from the acquisition? Simple Answer: Anadarko’s core assets.

if you can't find an answer from us disillusioned and hopeless layoff victims, I guess you could try reading the Chevron press information and multiple news reports where the reasons are pretty well articulated.

Corporate America and Wall Street investors want return on capital and they want it now. Additionally although the oil and gas prognosticators say petroleum will rule the world for another 25 years as the world economy grows and emerging markets demand a higher quality of living; oil executives understand they need to get it out of the ground while the getting is good. Short cycle projects are top of the list in desireable assets based on the international political climate and the future global outlook for energy innovation. The permian rocks will be squeezed with all possible might until the wells underperform against other investment opportunities. West Texas / Eastern NM is the American motherload of energy industry profits until diminishing ROI changes the perspective of the CEOs/BODs. Drill baby drill. And for all the working men & women in the oil industry, save baby save. Nothing lasts forever.

I would think that along with the U.S. shale (Permian, Uinta, et. al.), oil projects in Gulf of Mexico and Algeria gas were the most desirable assets.

You'd anticipate CVX identifying/recruiting Anadarko "high po s" to join the combined company.

I think it’s about getting more of the Permian and also the Mozambique gas assets.

It's all about the Permian acreage!!

That is all the corporation is interested in. Quick easy returns. Previously they spread their risk profile but it looks like they are banking on a few main areas now. They will offload alot of the Anadarko and CVX assets that don't fit in their future vision
