Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

Nothing But a Number at BNY Mellon

Look, we are nothing but a number, a 'productivity unit', a means to an end designed to transfer wealth to stock holders. We are nothing more than that to people like Charlie, Bridget, and those of their ilk. It is the sad truth of modern state capitalism. (It does not have to be this way, but they have had their snouts in the trough far to long to imagine a different way of doing business.)

It is disingenuous on a grand scale for Charlie to speak in a "town hall" and declare his outrage at a man of color being racially profiled (he talked about a black man who said he had to always carry his ID when running, in case he was stopped by police). Not only does he insult our intelligence and people of color he has no clue about, but he insults our ethical foundations when he tries to come off as a 'force for good'. Nothing could be further from the truth.

While people like him and his money grubbing kind may be very good at transferring wealth to those who already have enough, they remain moral knuckle draggers in the grand scheme of things, and I personally wish they have stayed in the trees where the belong.

We would all be better for it.

I’m happy to report that I was freed from my 13 years of increasingly thankless servitude at the sinking BNYM ship in January and it feels so great to be moving on to the next phase of my life. I wish only the best to my former colleagues. May you also be given your freedom.

kcu, this isn't vbg

Just pointing out how people like you like to toss out 'no one is safe' & 'could be you' type of stuff as if it lessons the point someone else is trying to make. Also see those types of replies when it is obvious the person didn't like they were reading, which is usually the TRUTH. Yep, the truth hurts.

Everything that vbg said is absolutely correct.

As for me, I welcome the pink slip. Even if I didn't, it wouldn't stop me from looking at the company with some rationale.

vbg: YES, because I read Marx while a business major in college so many decades ago. My millions are already “in the bank” because I knew I could never trust an employer, I had to make investments. Now I just need to hold out while the capitalist market goes up and down, which it will.

So, live in a capitalist country, but beware of capitalism, which exploits most of us as a workers. This does not make it right, it’s just reality.

vbg: will you still be quoting Marx after you get your pink slip? Remember, no one is safe. Not even you.

Welcome to America! This is a capitalist economy, as we all know. To benefit, if one gets no satisfaction from being a worker, one needs to be an investor. As an investor, actions that result in layoffs or reorganization often improve the bottom line. You don’t often hear investors complaining when that happens. FYI, someone named Marx wrote a book about this...
