Severance Package

Were any Chevron employees offered a voluntary severance package during the Chevron- Texaco merger?

@arrd, Thanks for that. After reading this thread and the responses, it has been made crystal clear that the post by 2ody is 100% unequivocal BS, just some belly-aching by him to further his false narrative. We get that a lot on this site. Trolls who post BS stories as an attempt to make a false exaggerated claim seem true to the average reader, when after all is said and done, it's 100% fiction.

I had a similar experience with the package. There is no conspiracy there, no "behind closed doors" winner choosing, etc. In fact, if you are not encouraged to take a package, be thankful. You may be one of the few who are worth keeping.

I was involved in several mergers and layoffs not during mergers and I found that the process was quite typical. There's a decent enough chance that you will get what you want as far as EOI requests. And I am still working happily with some who did not receive the package when they wanted it. There will most likely be more chances. The world didn't come to an end, no one harboring resentment, ill feelings, life goes on. Business as usual. Don't believe all the rhetoric on this site, take it with a grain of salt.

to ilkx, as I recall in the Texaco merger, all of the manpower reductions ended up being voluntary. I do not recall any worries about any ROM. I only recall that they were more worried about too many people leaving voluntarily. I only had 20 years service back then and I did not take it.

Yes, as you said, that's very sad and indicative of "no life or friends" that you would be here trolling continuously for so long that you would know that, 6qcr.

Yes that's pretty funny how you get b-slapped by some old lady because you couldn't admit that you are wrong so you started lashing out with profanities -😁 lol.

Then you keep on foaming from the mouth and your head explodes and you start having delusions about every poster who disagrees with you being the same person. I see that a lot on here from all the pathetic losers who are clueless. Don't stop now though, watching someone get B-slapped into a froth after being proven wrong is quite entertaining! How's that karma working out for you? Lm@ss off all day long! Please come back and get some more salt in your open wounds. I'm sure the other readers want to watch you embarrass yourself some more too, 5abb.

It seems to me that @5cox and the other previous posters going by “Old gal” and “Butthurt Betty” are one and the same person. Funny though how this person needs to reiterate again and again cutie comments that try to build up his/her original post. Sad, sad, sad. This my friends, is an example of how losers with low self esteem operate. Go get some help before the world eats you alive. I’m here laughing my A** off.

Maybe you run with the wrong crowd. None of my colleagues have been treated poorly. Of course, they are not the incompetent, do-nothing. long lunch, leave early all the time, take credit for other's work types either. Been around since before the Gulf merger.

@2vxa, your experience is different, but I’ve encountered this with several others I know across 3 lay-off periods in Chevron history going back to 1994. Those colleagues who were anxious to retire, talked to many others about wanting to leave and take a severance check out the door with them, guess what? HR or management had other plans for them. No such luck. Four safety specialists in a workgroup and only one of them wanting to volunteer and take the severance. Well, the other 3 were forcefully retired and my friend told to stay on. The way it ended was her retiring a year later, with no fanfare and no severance check. I can tell of other similar circumstances, but you get the idea. The company screwed then for making their wishes to bail a little too public.

If you are ready to retire and are salivating at the chance to grab a sweet severance check when you walk out the door, don’t make the mistake of advertising it. Don’t mention your wishes to retire to anyone. Once they know you want to call it quits, they’ll just keep you on and wait until you quit on your own or leave shortly after the layoffs are over. That’s right, HR and most senior management would like to screw you out of your wet dream. They think those opportunities are reserved only for them.

@1uzv did the Texaco merger trigger a ROM on the Chevron side?

by

Post ID: @1lkx+YD21Zqx

Yes, Chevron's acquisition of Texaco triggered Texaco's anti-takeover poison pill terms. All Texaco employees were entitled to a voluntary severance with 4 weeks for every year of service up to 2 years of salary. Chevron employees were not happy with that and O'Reilly then approved the same opportunity for Chevron employees a couple of weeks later.

Just looked the particulars up, the Texaco acquisition was worth 36 billion back in 2000. That's about 50% bigger than the Anadarko deal now, considering that Chevron's stock is 50% higher than back in 2000.

Nobody was offered voluntary severance at the C-T merger. However, Texaco employees were allowed to maneuver to jobs which gave them their preferred post-merger outcome. If they wanted severance they were moved to a clearly redundant group or one which implied a required move which would trigger severance. This greatly angered the older Chevroids who had no such benefit.
