Thread regarding Whole Foods Market Inc. layoffs

What's happening?

One of the managers left the store last week and was quickly followed this week by two of his favorites. Should this be a cause for concern? I'm hoping he found a better job and took them with him, but I'm also worried he knows something about our store and he shared it only with them.

Have we heard anything about more store closings? Should I worry?

Except for the fact that the lower volume stores are the ones that have generally seen the most improvement over the last 2 years...

I would worry about store closings. Lower volume stores will absolutely be closing once’s leases are up. Turning profits in many of those locations has become very difficult with profits decreasing because of price reductions. Those lower volume stores would need such a volume increase to balance off the loss in margin.

"You realize that those stores are going to compete with Wal-mart and Aldi way more than Whole Foods, right?"

Natural foods are now normal. What used to be a niche is now in every store including walmart and target. Every one of the small natural foods stores has shut down in my town because you can buy this stuff anywhere. You can get almost any of our products at a conventional store now other than the wfm or 365 brands. The people that shop at WFM "for a reason" are now supporting Amazon, one of the largest corporations in the world.

"With the Amazon announcement that they plan on opening stores with broader appeal, you should be worried."

You realize that those stores are going to compete with Wal-mart and Aldi way more than Whole Foods, right?

The people who do most/all of their grocery shopping at Whole Foods do so for a reason.

Just ask around, someone is bound to know something at your store more than here on this troll-y site.

Maybe the three of them are going to work at a new Amazon store. I read there will be 3,000 of them by 2022.

With the Amazon announcement that they plan on opening stores with broader appeal, you should be worried.
