Verizon will charge more for In-store activations of new phones

Verizon is altering its activation fee structure to incentivize customers to buy new phones online, according to CNET. Prior to this week, the standard activation fee, both for an in-store activation and when purchasing a new phone online, was $30. Now, Verizon says you can save $10 by buying a new phone online, paying only $20 to activate it, while doing so via a Verizon brick-and-mortar retail store will now cost you $40. The changes go into effect on Thursday, CNET reports.

It makes sense. People do more and more online. They increasingly only go to a store as a last resort or if in a rush wanting something that day. They will need to be willing to pay a premium for that service. Ultimately there will be less stores as the company wishes since most will wait the day or two for the new phone.. As stockholder you should applaud this. Less low level retail workers, less lease expense etc. Corporate capital is better expended on building out and maintaining the network.

It’s not hard anymore. U either buy a iPhone or a Samsung. Not any reason to go to a store anymore.

Looks like Verizon is aiming to reduce their overhead by shutting down stores and laying off employees in the not to distant future? Just guessing here...

Be that as it may, doing so will make their stocks soar (for a day or two) and that, after all, in a free market system is the main thing...amIright?
