Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Can we get some better managers?

You know, people who know how to do their jobs instead of those who got where they are because they know the right person?

The culture of nepotism at Verizon is completely out of control, and the productivity is suffering for it (not to mention employees who need some guidance from their managers.)

Verizon really needs to fix this.

They keep hiring managers from the companies we acquire. If they weren’t good enough to keep one company afloat why allow them to drive Verizon into the ground?

So glad I’m outta there ...it used to be you got rewarded for doing a great job, those days ended long ago, now it’s whoever is farthest up ones a-- gets the reward, which is technically sh-- but ...

The code of conduct violations that went on and little or nothing done. HRBP telling other managers of confidential information. Friends being promoted despite their severe lack of leadership skills, managers doing unethical things to make sales quotas. I’ve seen it all but honestly don’t see this company surviving another 10 years without some sell offs and major restructures.

"This kind of foolish thinking is also what has awoken the USA's nationalist tendencies."

Just because the nationalist tendencies are on the rise the right of the ownership does not change. USA attracts investments from all over the world. The only take those ownership back is to buy the ownership by the Americans themselves which does not seem possible hence the reason why the foreign investors are welcomed or you take the ownership back like Hugo Chavez did with his nationalistic tendencies which does not seem practical either. The nationalistic tendencies are nothing more than the piss in the wind. It will make you feel like you are blocking the wind with your piss but the reality is that the wind is not going to change its direction.

Many Americans still have a hard time understanding that USA is more of a Market than a Country. "

Fortunately, or unfortunately, corporations don't have militaries or any allegiance outside a paycheck. Perhaps you can hire some of their veterans, their solemn oaths were definitely not to the market.

This kind of foolish thinking is also what has awoken the USA's nationalist tendencies. The USA was founded to be completely different from Europe, although with its deepest roots in western civilization.

And Vodafone never "owned" Verizon, but had a minority interest in the company until that interest was bought out.

Don't know the company, don't know the people that underly the market, how can you win?

Great summary 2NNC, Many Americans still have a hard time understanding that USA is more of a Market than a Country. They do not understand who are the current owners of the corporations that run in this country. They would like to think they are all American companies but not too long ago VZ was owned 50% by Vodafone and Saudis had massive investment in that too. So VZ was more of a foreign company than an American Company.

They are all Global companies and they do not have a country.

I think this is white on white crime. Non whites are just the peons who execute the wishes of the whites.

The Persians are here because they have invested tons of their oil money in those corporations. So they dictated few positions for their people. In a way, they are the owners of many core companies like vz and citi bank. Those Persians have hired many servants and the servants hired their own servants.

Now you would imagine where these servants learned these kind of cronyism from, yes they learned this from non other than their own white master’a wishes of more profits.

It’s easy to attack the color one is comfortable with but the old whites are nothing less of a culprit than the Persians or the Indians.

I wonder what the customers would think if they knew that their children were not welcome to work at Verizon?

2fxs,

Maybe Marnie knows what happened to your job. I know it's really hard to accept, but non whites haven't done anything to you. It was a group of whites who decided to offshore the workforce because it was more profitable... everyone who looks like you isnt a friend and everyone who doesnt isnt out to get you

What happened, let too many older white folks go? What happened the diverse folks and Millennials cannot manage, go figure.

The Verizon workforce in no way reflects the composition of the US. There is a definite bias against white people.

Management has had approval to back fill all of the VSP positions in our org for months. They haven't filled any of them yet and have openly said that they won't be able to fill any of the positions until they get approval for h1b sponsorship.

The IT MANAGERS are well trained and experienced with conducting numerous fake interviews to sponsoring their green card and h1b cheap labor applicants. The government requires those IT managers to do due diligence in finding American workers before sponsoring a foreign worker but since they just want that foreign worker they work very hard in faking interviews and documenting the process throughly to present the case to government. Those same master of fake interviewers get promoted to directors and VPs and they do several fake interviews to pick their managers while they already know who they want to promote. It is already determined that it will be either his secret boyfriend, or his wives relative, or someone he goes to his church with, or someone who brings lunch to him at work.

This nepotism problem is very severe in IT to such an extent that all new director/ manager/ senior tech hiring is from the same backgroud and template. All interview process is fake and candidates are predecided. No one cares about talent. Yah but diversity candidate might thru due to HR Pressure.

I'm a nfa and I think my co worker is sleeping with his manager. He is behind in every possible metric but the director told me he was stack ranked 4th in the market. Leadership needs to step it up now that all these tools are shining big megawatt light on their problems. One tool and five minutes later you know what kind of employee you have

What the company really needs are better leaders, not managers. And if you don't know the difference between the two, well....then that's part of the problem.

The managers know that they are there because they knew someone up. They also know that the workers who report to them also know that he is worthless and he is only there because he was related to someone up.

And yet the manager acts like no one knows and throws meetings and ideas to those people as if he knows something. Just being related higher up is just not going to cut it to be a manager at vz, you need to be a competitive sociopath too. A sociopath who can function like a normal human when lots of people around him think he is worthless.

Yep. Doesnt even need to be related or from same region. main thing is to be a Yes Man and be subservient

it is horrible in IT. People who should have been RIF long ago but are married or relatives of execs are kept and follow them all over. These people know who they are.
