Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

UP Pension is becoming a pipe dream

MAPS, furloughs, PR, medical disqualification, d--k head managers, jealous co-workers, etc. there are a thousand land mines keeping you from getting your 20-30 years in.

It is a roll of the dice, and it takes just one event to ruin your life long plans.

I have to think that RRB will soon be history as well. That really only worked for lifers and you don’t really stay at the railroad for life anymore. People who qualify will get the benefit, but I bet they’ll do away with it for new people and just go social security.

The question you have to ask is, what if you didnt have to pay tier2 and invest yourself? Immean tier 2 means nothing now to most rr employees who now EXPECT to be laid off.

Well said and so true. This place gets worse every year I’ve got 29 years in te&y I’ll be 51 with 30 years and I will be resigning at 360 months can’t take this nonsense anymore. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone I know. I’ve see guys work them selves into a disability such as stroke and heart problems because they weren’t able to take a breather. This place works 50 yr olds just as hard as 20 yr olds and it’s hard to keep up with the grueling schedule.

Hey good for the furloughed workers if they are finding good paying jobs away from UP! The CN mob is slowly taking over the UP, as most authority figures are getting replaced by Vena's henchmen(left over from the Hunter Harrison days). Meanwhile CEO Lance Fritz is cowerdly sitting back, watching as business contract after contract goes over to the competitors. All for this pipe dream of Precision Railroading. While some of it does make some sense. But(seeing how the CN and CSX turned out) we all know it's pretty much a short term cash grab and then leave the company in ruins. Let's hope when it's all done that they don't run it all into the ground. I hope Lance chokes on his money. He actually thinks he will be running a political campaign(for an office) when he is done ruining the company. Got news for him, most Nebraskans won't be voting for him.

Now we are seeing furloughed former co-workers landing jobs with competitive wages and benefits(electricians and machinists). Might as well get over the dream, not that I will leave, but there sure won't be any tears when it happens.
