Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Why are you sticking around?

Still can't figure out why are people who are capable to learn new things sticking around not just with Verizon, but the entire industry - which has been brutal for employees of all ages for at least fifteen years now.

There are so many good options outside telecom companies, if you're just willing to try...

Why stick around? In my area it is very hard to find comparable job in terms of money and benefits. So I will ride with VZ until the end and then move on, most likely taking salary cut

Its just a job.

As long as they pay me, I will keep performing.

Work is work, here or elsewhere.

@1byd: good for you. you are being recognized!!! keep up the good work. we all know life is not fair but sour grapes for me as i am an excellent employee and not appreciated by my sr. Asian indian manager and got the boot - rebadged to Infosys who claims he was surprised that I was on the displaced list.

@1byd: personally I would have elected to stay.

Why do I stay? Because the pay is good, the job is still somewhat enjoyable, colleagues are friends, and I'm obviously too valuable to be accepted for the voluntary separation.

Assume union people hang out on a LAYOFF board, because work is slow and they are just sitting around playing on their phones?

Assume a 2023 contract makes them unmotivated to do any work which is why they just sit around and troll a LAYOFF board?

Assume reading comprehension of the average union member is low because they keep mistaking this site for a union forum page and they keep thinking Verizon Wireless is a seperate company from Verizon Communications?

Assume I will get 20+ downvotes and at least 5+ snarkey remarks from said unitelligent, lazy union memebers?

I love assuming!

Assume this question was meant for the VS wireless board but was incorrectly posted here? We have a contract thru August 2023 on the wireline side so this question doesn't apply to union members.

The foremen in my location now are a lot more hardworking than those who left. They actually do the things you ask of them, and they trust their team, not always 2nd guessing. It’s a refreshing change for the better.

@pcj, why spew hatred and untruth.

The “union people” are the talented work force, the most highly trained individuals here.

Most of the talented work force is gone. Just lifers and union people left. The company is going down the tubes with whats left.

I'm just waiting for an EISP. Until then I might as well make some extra cash. It would be foolish to leave without a little bump. To go elsewhere even with better pay would mean lost vacation time, no further pension accruals, a longer commute, the need to vest whatever K match the future employer has, the loss of seniority rights and worst of all the loss of representation and working in an at will circumstance. I'm sure many feel the same.

Why does anyone stay in a job? The pay is great here, the work is consistently interesting, plus changing jobs is hard, especially when you're not going to someplace significantly better. What exactly do you expect from your employer, candy and BJ's all day? It's good pay for good work.

Why do some people not exercise? Not go to college? Smoke? Personal choice. Deal with it.
