Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Which departments should we avoid like the plague?

For the APC employees, which organizations have poor leadership or have other major reasons to avoid? Any departments with reputations we should watch out for?

As of February 2020, the places to avoid like the plague are; CBRES, ETC, PRC, and some work centers in Finance and HES. Ultimately after the decimation is over, HR will see its share of personnel reductions.

Given there will be selection events coming in 2020, this seems like an important topic. Where to avoid working and who to avoid working for?

Slim chance the deal goes through anytime soon or maybe not at all. But if it does you will likely be asked to compete for several postions and be selected or placed into a postion where your experience and skills fit Chevron's needs. Unlikely that you will get to choose broadly where you will land if allowed to choose much at all. Sure you can choose whether to compete for a job at Chevron or not but not likely choose your specific role; leadership will ultimately make those decisions not transferring / absorbed Anadarko employees.

@6hoa, the unfortunate thing is that sometimes you’ll find Chevron BU’s and workgroups cutting back on expenditures, which includes hiring ETC project managers and specialists. This in turn cuts down on an ETC employee’s billable hours, which is how this division supports most of its overhead. So it doesn’t matter if you have a very productive employee working at ETC, if there’s not much work for them to justify their existence in the organization, unfortunately you’ll lose your job eventually. Stay out of ETC. Your longevity there is more dependent on others rather than you.

1mfr, No, not exactly. They will require to work for a living, be productive and deliver results, which is not common throughout the Chevron organization. If you do not actually work, it will cost you your job, correct on that point. Some personnel from other business units consider that bigotry. Such is life.

@1fls, tell them the truth. It stands for Early Termination Company: its Chevron’s booby “trap”.

GOM, unless you are from south east Louisiana.

They will make your life a misery till it costs you your job.

@ppv, It is true ETC gets cleaned out often. The acronym stands for Early Termination Company.

Avoid Global Reserves. The CVX Manager is a horribly unqualified, incompetent and disliked by his staff.

I would try to avoid what Chevron calls ETC, it is a talent warehouse that is clean out often.

After years of experiencing this, I’m planning to avoid the entire industry. I hope I am let go. Good riddance to this entire sector.

Finance, Business Development, HES. Those 3 departments will have a lot of overlap. Start updating your resume and packing your box. Security will be coming to get you soon to escort you from the building.

Chevron has gotten rid of twenty percent of its workforce in recent years and still isn't done. I would personally freshen up the resume. A large portion of the synergies is going to come from lay offs. You can't save 2 billion in supply chain. Sorry to say.

Avoid Latin America, Africa, Indonesia, Europe, Thailand, San Joaquin, GOM and Permian. Otherwise all good.
