Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

How do they plan to replace the laid off talent?

They sure as hell are not hiring. Many knowledgeable folks are already out to door, either via layoffs or they left on their own, as they saw the writing on the wall. No one in the world can tell me that isn’t an irreplaceable loss, especially for a company that desperately needs a breakthrough. So how do they plan to replace what’s lost, without spending additional money into people?

Class of program and college hires. The cheaper the talent, the more $$$ they can put in their own pockets.

Oh, it all makes sense now - this is why Oracle needs a 6 month lead time to provision you. Then can't find consultants who can implement your solution. What's going on with consulting anyway? So many consultants but none seem to have a clue what to do.

"Oracle Cloud" was invented as a way to rent time on overpriced server hardware that nobody wanted to buy. Of course it is all exactly the same legacy software running on those machines, perhaps with a management layer on top so that a smaller staff can take care of upgrades, etc across a large farm.

The real cloud providers like AWS do not make you pay in advance for specific mahcines to be ordered and installed for you to use - they have so much excess capacity that the time between placing an order to having resources available to you is measured in seconds, not months.

By getting rid of development teams Oracle is being hollowed out exactly as though a Vulture Capitalist had taken it over.

AWS needed years of efforts and a huge budget to jump off Oracle DB, no smaller company will never be able to do the same. Those using Oracle DB will continue to do so for many years to come, and we will have a huge support stream to maintain the company.

Moreover, cloud is not a product for Oracle, it's a way to sell a product. Cloud is just a nice to have for LE, something to leverage the current market hype, funded with the so-called legacy products. It can win, it can fail, no matter. If it fails we will have another hype-vagon to jump on into, leveraging the money coming from the legacy products.

To be honest, there can never be a good replacement to original brains behind a product. (That is why ideal prod companies value their old talents)....Once inside 'O" the entire team of a prominent cloud apps product left en mass, as there was no hikes for 2.5 years....Then the dev was outsourced to "loaned" engineers from other team..By their own confession....without any background knowledge about the product and because of the tight-schedule, they ended up creating 2-3 new bugs when they resolved 1 bug....Presently that winner product is in a mess, and a good part is still managed by ever changing team of "loaned" resources who have no idea about the product.

It's amazing how much of our cloud offerings are utterly dependent on our"legacy" on-prem software. Lay off the people who make that, and we're screwed. Already seeing it every day.

We are spending big money to recruit for the cloud. The legacy stuff is being dropped like a hot potato.

I know you'd like to think you were irreplaceable, but sad reality is you were and by tenfold.

It's also not to save money. We're recruiting like crazy for fresh blood and talent.

Just milk on existing customers. You don't need talents for that. With the existing market to be milked, it might last 10 years and the top executives are about to retire at the time. Perfect timing. Constant layoffs will reduce overhead and keep things under control. The products still generate the same revenue even without new features, release, and patches. Overall profits go up. This is much better for the stock price and bonuses for the executives. Innovation costs money. If you want to run a company with the highest profit in the shortest run, what would you do? Ride on a bike until the training wheels fall off then get a new bike.

They are spending high and getting people from new age companies. People who were fired are legacy and O has no place for them.

Wake up and smile the coffee: the 3 stooges are not running oracle for the long term or even the medium term, they are simply pimping up the stock for the short term. Layoffs mean less cost, everything else the could care less about. There is no future for it at oracle - sell the stock and leave asap.
