Dreading BYKTW - Just more office politics

Bring your kids to work day is dreadful. Sorry to those that bring your kids, but do you really think they enjoy spending the day at our office? We can't stand being there and you want to put them through that dreadful agony!

It's just a day for people to use their kids as an excuse to rub elbows, nothing more. It's a distraction. More than half the people don't even keep track of their kids after lunch and meetings get interrupted by children asking where their mom or dad can be found.

They should eliminate this if they want to cut expenses and we wouldn't have to deal with the upchuck in the bathroom every year because someone couldn't handle the candy bars and soda.

2007-12 merger years? This place is so inept some of it is still going on in technology.

My mid/late teens kids saw me working around the clock evenings and weekends here with no life and constant pay and benefits cuts throughout the core 2007-12 merger years. As a result they didn’t want to major in either business or technology. I had to explain to them that this was a dysfunctional organization, nothing resembling normalcy and that they should follow their hearts and aptitudes. They are now happy, successful and highly savvy at picking an employer.

Millennials are not going to make the mistake of misplaced loyalty that boomers made.

jaj here ... quite seriously, I have had this discussion with my daughter about what NOT to do with your career. Told her to focus on something with potential to give you some personal satisfaction ... nursing, medicine, teaching, etc.; told her no job or institution is perfect but at least going down that route you can help people, have a feeling of satisfaction doing so, and probably can't have your job shipped 10,000 miles away.

Besides, on BYKTW day, what is there to show? A bunch of closely packed desks, PCs and copy machines? I could walk down the aisle in Staples and do the same thing in 5 minutes. My daughter's friend is a cookie salesman and at least that a kids can relate to.

Bring your kids to work to show them what kind of job to NOT take. What a horrible job really looks like.

... and Ms. Y the principal said we can no longer study from home.

My daughter comes home and tells me her teacher said some changes were coming. We don't have to sit at the same desk each day, so we can switch around. However the new desks we're getting are smaller, so they can fit in additional students. Turns out some additional students are arriving from another country and we have to make room for them. If you need to store your stuff before dismissal, you can use the cubbies at the back of the room.

Also guess what. Next week's menu in the cafeteria includes chicken curry instead of sloppy joe's.

If you need to use the bathroom, since there may be a line since the floor is more crowded, you can go down to the big bathroom by the cafeteria. Make sure you take the class pass.

Finally, she told me Ms. X told the class that some of you are not performing up to expectations. Those who don't will be expelled and have to attend school elsewhere. She also told me "Ms. X used to be such a good teacher, but now all she does is yell at us and then tells us to read quietly, and then she just looks at her phone".

A reminder. There will be a spelling test tomorrow. This week's vocabulary words are 'collaborative', 'compensation', 'divestiture', and 'severance'.

I could never let my kids mingle with the hr minions. They would probably repeat some terrible things. Ie Charlie Schart is an elitist pig! Gadget blew 1000 million bucks and has nothing to show for it.

We can’t take it out on the kids. Make it a nice day for them. They do a nice program for the kids. Leave the kids out of it.

Lol I didn’t find this at all but I my location has a spotting track record of holding the event because people that set it up are constantly fired or quit.
