Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

Management is the worst!

They should be doing their job which is partly to reassure employees that they, the managers, are acting with the best interest of the team to balance incoming work with current resources while at the same time trying to find creative opportunities for additional outlets to reassign work or bring on more resources, depending upon the situation. They should be talking with their teams to solicit ideas because the people actually doing the work probably have some thoughts on how to realign work and/or resources better than management.

But no. Managers are walking the floor using intimidation tactics and causing certain employees to burn out while other employees use the office as their social hangout.

On point post from @YG1bqY8-3mzf.

A dozen people waiting to take my job as a manager, so they can be hated too? Karma!

Sure Charlie, keep telling yourself that dozens are chomping at the bit to work there in place of thousands of disillusioned incumbents. Just like your belief that you are a great leader.

People seem to overestimate the power of their manager. I am a manager. I did not want this job ans said so, but had no choice. I listen with sympathy but have no power at all to change anyone’s workload or deadlines. If asked to provide BE, I will nominate myself with the hope that I get laid off. Then heaven help my team who could get another powerless manager, but maybe one with less sympathy.

This place is a mess. Even managers think so, and we say so, too. But no one cares.

So if you are hoping we can do something to help you, good luck with that. And I bet that we managers have pretty much given up on anyone else helping US to help YOU.

I once had a great job, and I’ve been looking for another, Wish me luck so you can be rid of me, who never asked to manage anyone anyway.
