Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

Up vote if you rarely see or hear from your manager

I have read multiple posts about managers walking through the work area and mistreating employees.

I rarely see or hear from my manager. From my observation and break room conversations, most of the managers on my floor hide in their cubicles or office.

And no, forwarding an occasional email with "FYI" doesn't count as hearing from them in my book.

Not uncommon for me to go weeks without a hello or good morning, let alone a conversation involving the work I do.

In my book, these managers are as much of a problem as the tyrants.

ahom, laugh it up while you can. One day you will have a mortgage and kids still in school, and you will have the rug pulled out from under you. You won't be laughing then.

And make sure you get your vote in for Bernie next year. You will need the free healthcare. Of course the socialist will cause you to lose your job sooner rather than later, and that is where karma comes into play.

So keep laughing

Yep 9muh. We sound like 8 year olds and you sound like the teacher's bet. No matter how far you go in your career, you will always be the guy with a brown nose that no one respects.

9muh - it actually sounds like allot of managers can be eliminated and save the company money since they aren't performing their activities.

What's up with these managers? Allot of them are MIA lately. Working from home weeks at a time. Not responding to any emails. They are all updating their LinkedIn profiles. It's like management has given up on doing any work. What do they know that we don't know?

My Manager came into the office only 2 days out of the whole month of April. He "work from home" all the days but no work was actually done. Everytime when asked, he said he was very stressed and "trying his best" OMG

3ndl, I peg you as one of the Millennial butt kissers dragging the company down. No doubt you typed that novel from your phone since it is in your hand more than it is not.

By all means, do some extra butt kissing and reach out to 6th floor managers. They might pick up the phone or read your email. Fully depends on what is going on at home, in the news or on Facebook.

2bsr,

Sounds like we are only getting one side of the story here ... yours. First, look into the law- management may offer OT or NOT offer OT to anyone they choose. Sounds like your management team thinks they are offering OT to people who actually produce work instead of just milking the clock for every last cent. Second, perhaps if you spent more time focused on YOUR job and less time fantasizing about what your management team is discussing in meetings you would be more productive and be offered OT. Third, how does someone at your level come across “inside” info about coming layoffs? Were you in one of those secretive meetings you seem so obsessed with? Did the walls in fact talk to you? If you are so unhappy with your current job might I suggest you look for work elsewhere... after reading your posts I am willing to bet your managers and even your coworkers would rejoice to see you go. If your unhappy leave, if you want to stay then do what you are being asked and punch out on time. Saying that you are working off the clock sounds more like your own doing attempting to make yourself a martyr and not the work of some malevolent manager. One final note, how many departments do you think have floors on 6 and 9 in the CSC? Strong bet the entire management team knows who you are.

2bsr, in a cost cutting climate like ours, it is common for managers to hold open reqs to give up instead of people. So there is a chance your area will be hit without losing people.

Of course that extra work that everyone took on while waiting for a new hire will become theirs permanently.

My manager and another manager from another team in my area take smoke breaks every two hours almost to the hour, and when they are not on break they are hiding in their cubes or in the VP s office talking to him about something or in lengthy meetings. I seriously wonder what they talk about for hours at a time. I don't think they are talking about the weather. If only the walls in my VP s office and our conference room and a conference room on the 9th floor if the CSC in PGH oh the stories they could probably tell!!

I had a meeting yesterday with my manager about overtime for a project another team is doing and only they are permitted to do, their team people doing it are 4 people at one and a half hours each night or about 6 and a half hours each week, and they freak out if I punch out five minutes past my end time and out it down on my time sheet. Lately I have been putting down on my time sheet worked xx amount of time off clock when I go over my eight hours daily. My manager also denied that my area will be effected by these layoffs. I told her in my past experiences with rumors of layoffs they did in fact end up becoming reality and I have a feeling the same will happen here but she said she doesn't think so despite there are three open reqs for full time position. So far nobody that I know has been effected by these layoffs. That is my two cents/rant for today. End of rant!!

S---ing up to superiors whether they are right or wrong is one thing BNY employees do very well.. most of them , some prefer to maintain their dignity and just do their job..

This young prick with a big mouth has been s---ing up to his narcissistic MD above him, and somehow replaced my previous and remarkable boss. The whole team knew the young prick, because previously he was our peer. Anyway, all he does is steal our ideas, palm it off as his own on a fancy powerpoint to the narcissistic MD - and anyone who dares to point it out gets fired. He does nothing else. I mean nothing. I had a conversation with him twice per month for 30 minutes, otherwise nothing - not an email, meeting, chat, nothing. Seven out of ten are no longer with the company, but the young prick is still there, s---ing up to his narcissistic MD...

We have an new manager that I hear from everyday. I feel for the new manager because it’s a great person, doesn’t fit with the culture of bk at all. This naturally makes me skeptical that this person will stay at the company for any length of time.

I have one even better my Director would nap in his little cubical and HIS MD new it and where is he now, they just moved him to another department to destroy more careers of hard working people that he doesn't like. They should rid this company of all Management and regroup since they are all to comfortable in their ivory towers... The little people should give the yearly reviews of Managing Directors and Directors since they are on the front lines and interact with them on a daily basis more personally. It is a no win situation.

My boss was just like that. Maybe it’s the same guy. He was a nasty fat a#&...”my way or the highway” type. A collaborative environment it definitely was NOT. The most toxic environment I ever worked in. And he was hired last July. Prior bosses were the opposite.
