Thread regarding Sam's Club layoffs

We can’t expect to build a career at Sam’s

I’ve been a Sam’s employee for 10 years and I believed in this company once. Unfortunately I have to advise anyone who thinks that this is a company in which one can build a career, not to pursue that thought. A hard working associate can’t expect even a decent raise here, much less any real advancement. Hard work is not rewarded at this company.

Sam's pretty much only wants 2 kinds of associates.

Short term fillers who have no ambition to do the major grunt work.. they give these associates a 2% raise each year, over work them and long term retention isn't a consideration. If you think youll get a job at sams and be doing the same thing in 10 years but for more money you're gonna end up leaving for another company long before then since eventually new hires will be getting paid more than you or you'll simply burn out.

  1. People with ambition who want to move up and will do what it takes to do so. What it takes varies from club to club but once you hit management you must be willing to travel you're not gonna be a manager at the club you start at and the larger the geographic area you are willing to move the better your chances of moving up. Sams wants these because they want a younger management team who they can pay less so they can get rid of the long term managers who "make too much". The more of these they can get the more they can purge the older management. Keep in mind though that LONG term one day you will be one of these managers who "makes too much". When that day comes you'll eventually be let go but will have years of experience to land a job at another company and a decent severance package.

it must be someone from management that keeps asking what does this thread have to do with layoffs? Because Home Office is not rubbing you on the back and filling your AS with Dck (pockets with money) and telling you your every move. So I understand you are lost but we are WARNING people to not make the dumbest mistake of your life Sams Club is not what it used to be. Because they do not care anymore.

@vyy... Trolling the threads with the same comment. Move on if you don't like it.

Obviously have no clue what leads to a business's demise. That, does mean more future layoffs.

Totally agree give 30 plus years only to get f---ed in the end. The company pretty much let go if everyone in the last few years with any kinda tenure. It takes a company years to what they discarded in the last 2 years.

Exactly! I'm not sure how so many come on here and complain but stay with the company. Today Sam's is only good for getting by while going to college. Anything more is dead end.
