Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

How we reached a point where management layoffs are unavoidable?

I know it was in their intention to spare the managerial structures as much as possible, but at this point there are too many managers and If they keep going in this direction there will be no one left for them to manage. Has the time come to see reductions of management positions?

Field managers are already short handed, so laying them off makes no sense. MTMs and MBMs can't cover the territories that they have. Field managers typically work 60+ hours per week, and without overtime, bonuses, and for a salary that amounts to minimum wage when time spent on site and commuting are factored in. Even without that, manager pay is below average for equivalent positions in other private sector companies. Not sure why all the agreement people thought we had it so good. We didn't.

Add all of the above to the lack of any ability on the part UP to attract and retain real corporate talent, and you get the current situation where perpetual dysfunction is the status quo.

Good luck with your railroad. You're going to need it.

Any managers that could have moved on to better jobs. The people left smell of desperation.

News to you guys apparently but count on everyone not management being contracted out. Don't believe me? Think I'm a troll? Just stop and think about it and the company benefits.

Keep management to oversee contractors.

Contractors are cheaper than union

No liability as damages and Fra fines will be put back on contractor company

That's how the c--- s---ers really get to g55

The managers at our mechanical shop are numerous and useless for anything other than looking for reasons to hand out criticals. The real leaders were the FG facility planners who were knocked back down to supervisors but are still expected to do the managers' jobs for them for less pay. Mechanical leadership has taught the rest of us that being an intelligent, hard worker gets you nowhere, but being a worthless, back stabbing sycophant gets you everywhere. The Union Pacific has always been unprofessional, but at least there were opportunities. It has now become a dead end career except for the wicked whose love for money exceeds their desire to build a successful team/organization.

That was not their intention at all. Nonagreement is the easiest to cut. There’s just have less field managers than crew. They’re even got rid of the avps and I say good riddance
