Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Our paint department at sears is being eliminate!!

All paint and supplies are now 50% off!

We just got the paint department about 5-7 years ago and I think each can has not moved in that time, probably turning to solid by now..ugh

Didn’t it cost a lot of money to bring the paint department back in at select stores.. especially with the pain computer system that can match every color etc

Don’t think it’s a good sign that our store will be around long

The lawn and garden area is shrinking too.. very sad

My family had a small paint store fifty years ago. I remember us shopping at Sears and hearing my Dad b--ching about all the people walking out with paint. Times change indeed!

The idea of going to Sears to buy paint feels almost as remote as going to Sears to buy guns or electronics. Just unimaginable anymore.

I didn’t know any of the test stores still had it. Our store was initially going to get it back and they went with a different tool set instead. Probably was for the better, it was kinda dead near the end of the run.

Fewer people do exterior painting, mainly only decks, and interior painting seems to focus these days on people changing the colors often and using cheap paint, higher end stuff tended to stick around longer because the paints have improved and the paint holds up better.

Even at Lowe’s/Home Depot/Wal-Mart they used to have 2-3 people in the paint, now there is one there is rarely a line to get paint anymore.

Paint was removed from 95+% of stores about a decade ago. There were rumors of test stores bringing it back 3-4 years ago, but it was never intended to be permanent.

Sears used to be the place to go for paint up until Home Depot and Lowes took away the marketshare....We used to have 6 or 7 associates on the paint dept schedule back in the late 80's into the 1990's during the Spring and Summer busy season.....couldn't stock the department fast enough to keep up with business on Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends back then.

Our Paint Dept was removed in 2012 or so.
