Management hollowed out?

During the golden years of Oracle, there were lots of promotions of developers to Directors, regardless of whether they could manage or not. Some were really bad leaders. Basically, Oracle had a weak advancement strategy for individual contributors so they took the easy way out and made the superstars into Directors, and some eventually to VPs. This made the structure top-heavy with lots of layers, and this hierarchy survives today although it has been hollowed out recently in some divisions.

I haven't seen any management hierarchy "hollowed out" in my area. Anyone? To me, it looks like management are never laid off.... unless perhaps if the entire area is removed.

I don't think this is all that uncommon and many including myself moved back to IC once they saw the light though for me it took many years to show up again as IC on Aria.

Wow, finally someone has the nerve to speak the truth. I saw it so many times withing the tribes.

It is the season for reorg's and rif's, the beginning of June is always prime time to shuffle the management around with new initiatives and new fiscal goals. Maybe this year it will moving all the on premise customers to the cloud :) oh wait, I think that was the plan last year.....

If only we could believe the spring cleaning will happen in June....ah the sweet smell of new directors, vp's ..... maybe they'd even be knowledgeable and have real management experience?
