Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

Why we stay

A lot of people seem to be wondering why we are staying at BNYM considering everything that's been going on lately - especially the nonstop layoffs.

Personally, I've invested too much of my life into this job to just up and quit. For some that might sound like a stupid reason, but at my age it's a very valid one.

Other people have their own reasons - none of which make them naive or stupid, as some people seem to think.

My point is, stop judging others for not making the same decision you made.

I think that many stay because we are are well paid with good jobs that we really enjoy, and work in an interesting industry with great teams. (Much of which seems to be what the company wants to destroy.)

If only we could “just ignore” BNY’s weird anti-employee culture. It baffles me how we - the company’s most valuable assets - turned into the enemy. To work here, it sure helps to be in a state of denial.

Strange but true.

I stay because its a choice of this or getting re-educated for a more relevant job. Cyber-security is hot hot hot. Application development, not so much any more. I can be one of those kept to keep the business running, or get laid off and need the year (or more) to train for a new career. No one is hiring my type anymore... and this has been the way of technology for decades. No point complaining, just deal with it one way or another.

Yep, I’ve outlasted many CEOs and business line leaders. I can outlast this dirtbag.
