Welcome back mechanical department! The stale leadership in this department is finally coming to an end. No more I knew your daddy. No more I slept on your couch. No more walking past the CMO without him acknowledging your existence. And hopefully (fingers crossed), no more AVP.
I truly think the new CMO is going to be the best thing to happen to the mech dept since Barry.
Avp is a made up position to allow a promotion and in turn, a director level vacancy to open up in which someone can move thier wife, or son, or, the gal from marketing you slept with at the castle 12 years ago or even a son in law into a safe and secure salary bilking job with little accountibility or decision making power.

What exactly is an "Asssistant Vice President" anyway?
UP is the only company I know of that has such a position. Other (generally better managed) companies will have a director and then VP. UP has managers for their managers, VPs for their VPs etc.
Never in my life did I work for a company that had such a distorted and inflated leadership structure.
