Does anyone know if the car dept. will be hiring anymore this year? I want to switch crafts. I'm tired of all this toilet work.

Honestly, everyone knows you don’t mess with the North Platte car department. These guys are a true example of how a brotherhood should be. These guys will find bad orders on every train if provoked. The Train crews are the ones that suffer when Carmen are on a mission. Please don’t upset the NP Carmen.
Car departments as we know them are going away. UP is selling off any company owned cars, and shifting car maintenance responsibility to the customer / shipper. If a car is b/o, it's set out and up to the customer / shipper to make repairs. This is part of the PSR workers don't realize is happening, and should be fully transferred to the customer by the end of the year.
You will start at the bottom in new craft but as long as you continue to pay dues to your current craft it'll hold your old seniority too. May as well try to transfer. If they furlough you in new craft you can bump back to old craft. If you cant hold a job in old craft you would have been furloughed anyways.
Don't transfer, everybody I've seen in the last 2 years, that have either changed crafts or transfer to a different location, they're all either furloughed or back to being an mso.
Everyone that works for Union Pacific is doing toilet work.
I wouldn’t transfer. Risk of cuts are high and your seniority resets
