Thread regarding Sam's Club layoffs

Sam Walton would be ashamed.

I was a PTC and after hearing about all the changes, I am so glad I took my severance and walked away. This company doesn’t care about its associates anymore. For over 22 years I preached the open door, respect for the individual, Sam Walton’s beliefs, the 10 “ rule, and talked about it being a family based company. The sad part is I believed it. I feel liked a lied to so many people. And now I have a life time membership to a place going under.

I don’t care if Sam is doing the Macarena in his grave, it will have to get a lot worse for me to walk away from nearly 300 PTO hours (that’s 37.5 days off a year).

I don't think it's beneficial to pit "new" or "young" associates vs "old." As an associate who has been with the company for 19 years, I can honestly say that some of the changes are good and necessary. I do have some disagreement with (a) delivery and (b) not offering severance in certain places. When I first began with this company I took it upon myself to learn many different areas and actually formally suggested to my Club Manager that cross-training would be very beneficial. I finally see some aspects coming to fruition, however, I may not like every means of change that has come about (for example, my last position, PTC, was eliminated). I like certain elements of block scheduling - I think it will be great for retention to have people knowing what their schedule will be. It was very difficult when my son was young to have to maneuver around an ever-changing schedule, and I can only imagine for single parents or those of many children. I'm not keen of the inflexibility of block scheduling. As with everything in life, you take the good with the bad. There are great associates who just began with the company as well as ones who have been with the company 20+ years. Great ideas can come from people of any age or tenure. Let us all practice "respect for the individual." Not because it is a corporate directive; rather, because it is the right thing to do.

I was also a PTC who was loyal for 15 years. I’m so glad I took severance and got out. That company is in trouble, big trouble!

@cyj. Spot on. These younger generations could careless how people are treated. Shoot they dont even know how to talk to each other in person let alone care about anything but technology to advance further the lack of human involvement in peoples lives. They dont know how to appreciate humanity over technology. The way it is. Glad I'm not part of their mess anymore. I like real people too much.

Name a company that gives you advance warning to any closures?

I'm not the polish dog id--t but all I've seen on here is I worked for the company for 20 some years and blah blah this and blah blah that. Your insight isn't constructive nor beneficial. So why would I want to read it?

As I'm part of a younger generation perhaps this is the clash of the new and old. If your Sam's Club continued down it's path of building clubs to build them and building in places like Washington or Alaska where Costco is king then it would have been more than 60 clubs. New leadership to the company seen the data and moved quickly. No it's not pretty when a company realizes it fckd up and has a blood bath but in today's world it's about survival and my Sam's Club is turning itself around to embrace digital and that's exciting for my generation.

So in my view I don't need insignificant insight unless it's being constructive.

To Mr. "we don't need your insight." I totally disagree. This company seems to be currently lacking in insight. It could use plenty of insight from all sources--current associates, former associates, members, and any others. A company that shutters more than 60 clubs in one day without warning to associates or members seems to be sorely lacking in the insight department. Whether arrogant leadership is open to insight is the question.

So... If you don't work for the company and don't care then... Why are you here? We don't need your insight.
