Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

There is life after UP, you will find your next experience.

Work on your resume and references, maybe take a class on it. Just be prepared for the worst, while hoping for the best. The more you do to prepare, the less helpless you'll feel.

Setup a LinkedIn, and get that fleshed out, get some connections on there and network. Keep it professional.

I used to check this site every day, looking for more information. I was one of the first to get walked out on Feb 12. Seeing so many people coming out after me with boxes of their stuff, it really hit me that I'm glad I wasn't there longer. I'm glad I got let go. I miss the people I worked with but I don't miss contributing to what UP is.

You are valuable, you have talent and skills, you will find something that makes you happy, a company that truly values you as an employee, where you're a truly valuable investment, not just a number.

It took me a couple months of searching and working through stuff but I've found my new home. You can and you will and you'll be much better off for it. Get out of there while you can, where you don't have to worry constantly if today's the day.

Start looking, take a class on interviewing and start practicing and getting that ball rolling. You will find somewhere that wants you and wants to keep you.

Put UP in your rearview and keep driving.

-Someone who learned that they're valuable

I got out in March. Found a job in the same trade for a commuter line making a little less, but I’m not on call.

Had to make the hard decision with 2020 coming.

I’ll bet these mo--ns didn’t anticipate that people would preemptively start leaving. With that being said they may get to 55 a lot sooner then they thought they would with tons of lawsuits/lost contracts/derailments/accidents/litigation to go with it. Its already happening with the 2 major derailments in Nebraska

I can’t wait to watch the sh-- show from a distance. Lance is getting that golden parachute prepared for departure. I give it 3 good years and the infrastructure will really start to crumble especially in Nebraska

Good luck

I was walked out on Feb 12th and I think it was probably a win for me when all is said and done.

I also got walked out on Feb. 12th. Didn't see it coming. I loved UP, but since then I've lost all respect for the executives. I've moved on to better things. Yes, there is is life after UP, and it's great. No, UP is not a great company anymore, and it will take decades to rebuild. It's just not a good place to work anymore. But my advice is stay put. Don't quit. Hang in there, and hope that you get laid off in the next round.

Congrats. I would change the title to “Life begins after UP” because what I had at UP wasn’t a life. Luckily I got out early career.
