Thread regarding Ford layoffs

49 year old GSR8 here. I can build houses and rebuild cars ground up. If anything I'll welcome a reboot. F it...

-2noh amen to that. Zero reduction in LL5+ in our area. There has actually been an increase in those. Our LL5 advised some LL6 to go in the next few weeks and some GSR as well. Since LL5 has zero job skills or knowledge it is worrying. We are running very lean and have very hard time finding experienced people to come to DTW. We do have the obligatory deadwood who are best buds with the LL5, but we all know they will remain.

I have not seen too much thrifting in LL5 plus ranks. Will be nice to get "Before" and "After" stats of headcounts at various LL levels. I am not in LL ranks so may not have visibility of headcount cuts.

I am also 55. I lost my pension when I was orphaned with Visteon. Fortunately, I maintained technical skills that are still in demand at suppliers, but working for suppliers s---s, and my age makes it unlikely I could get anything but a contract job. So, maybe it will be long summer days with an adult beverage on the deck. Maybe I’ll be able to work on some of this projects I never seem to have time for.

-pkb 55 is important as you are eligible for retirement at that point.

Ford employees with pension can draw at 55, with supplemental payment which is provided until age 62 when the retiree can draw social security.

-Roy agree on the toxicity, it is reached horrendous levels. I have observed the incompetent banning together and trying to make the competent look bad to management. It has been an eye opening experience. If I am still around after Bloody Tuesday I will certainly remember the true character of some of those around me.

I have been wondering if Ford will issue blue bags like GM.

Whoever says GSR isn’t on the list is on crack. They are. More GSR than LL6 will be let go on the 21st. But percentage-wise more LL6 than GSR.

55 year old GSR8 here. I chose to not make a move to an LL6 role last year because I saw the writing on the wall in our org. Not sure if that makes me a target or makes me safe, but I am at peace with being let go at this point.

I am cautiously applying to other jobs. I am applying to other states. I think Michigan is going to be a tough job market for awhile, regardless of what the media says. I have mentally conditioned myself to be ready to make a big move and uproot my life with the goal of getting some stability for the next ten years so I can live in peace and continue working. I do not have the pension. I joined Ford after the pension was gone.

The toxicity of the work environment is the worst I have ever experienced. There is fear and anxiety in the eyes of most of the people I see in the hallways. Even the cafeteria workers are upset lately. I asked one of them what was wrong. She told me that they all may lose their jobs because Ford has put the cafeteria services out to bid for the first time in ages. So...none of us are immune. I wish upper management could see the trickle down effect their actions are having on literally tens of thousands of people.

I wish us all a safe landing and nothing but the best.

One question: how does 55 year old makes a difference ?

I am in the same boat - 55 yo GSR with 20+ years of ford service.

Good for you. We were told this likely won't hit the GSR community, so hopefully you'll be OK.

I'm a 55 year old LL6, and feel very vulnerable. Thank god I've hit my retirement milestone, so they can't screw me out of that. We may have to sell the house, but if they let me go I'm just planning on retiring and adopting the "minimalist" lifestyle. It's all the rage with the kids these days!

Hang in there, buddy!!
