Thread regarding Sam's Club layoffs

Sam Walton

Tired of hearing Sam would not do things this way or that way. Well, unfortunately he is deceased. Do you guys really expect his children to run the company the way good ole Sam did? Not gonna happen folks. They will run it however they want to. Sam is GONE, get real, it's not the same company and never will be again. Its heading for disaster so just get out while you can then you will have peace of mind!

Sam single handedly brought the offshoring movement to America. He toured Asia to build factories and lobbied relentlessly for trade agreements and exemptions. If you want to know why you can't buy a home with a retail wage today, thank Sam Walton.

Sam wasn’t all sunshine and lollipops. There’s plenty of stories out there where he was ruthless as all get out. They don’t tell those at large company gatherings though.

If they don't want us to compare or complain about it then they should take all his pictures down, take down all his quotes, quit talking about all the things Sam did. If HO and management still cram him into everything then yes we expect to be treated the way he did.

OP makes a good point, when you worship someone like they are the Messiah, how could anyone compare when held up to such a legend.

Blame Sam for taking the company public in then 70’s. While the decision to go public turned out to create a company that is one of the largest corporations in the world, he also created the monster that is WMT. Taking WMT public also made his family the single largest, most wealthy family in America, worth billions of dollars. Had Sam’s kids not been so wealthy, maybe they would have stayed more involved in the day to day operations of the company to protect their wealth snd carry on their father and grandfathers company ways.

Remember that when you are worshiping the ground Sam use to walk on, he also was anti-union during a time when unions were able to improve wages and working conditions. He also was to blame for many small town local businesses failing when WMT came to town. So the next time you look at one of Sam’s posters on the wall, remember that he made business decisions that hurt small town America. If he was alive today, staring into the eyes of the monster that is Amazon, maybe he too would be making some very hard decisions to save his company.

Comments people make about Sam are all to do with treatment of people the way Sam believed & lived his life. Treating people with respect and caring about their lives is what Sam was about. You obviously dont know much about values, morals, principles which is typical for today's young work force. Ignorance is thinking people were referring to technological changes, growth changes etc. That's always been the greed of retail businesses and the choice of those of us who work here.
