Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

How do VSP-ers feel right now about leaving?

I’ve heard a lot of people that took the VSP, stating that it was the best decision they ever made and that they were better off outside the company. Just wondering, do this folks still have the same level of satisfaction and the confidence that they’ve made the right decision, now that some time has passed?

Doing very well focused. Like most here, I’ve Spent much of my life making vz Millions sometimes in a day. Last 8 years work load was insane. People having heart attacks, cancer, diabetes just walked out the door. I was glad I got to chose when a left. Those left behind have my prayers and they’re planing as well.

I left in March and have mixed feelings. Being in my mid 50s, I'm finding it difficult finding a job. No interviews yet (other than the young, clueless recruiters who never put me in front of a client for a real interview). I worked on Cisco equipment for 15+ years (and multiple Cisco certs) and can't find work. Hope it's not a sign of things to come. I have no doubt it's age discrimination (since I have my pic posted on LinkedIn).

12/28...18 years.

Best decision I made! Had a plan from jump... moved from high tax state to lower tax state. Just managing my rental properties and closing on a short term property next Monday.

DH has a great pension. Won't touch 401k and other retirement savings for 10 years

I'm busier and happier now then I've been in years....working in corporate America is means to an end.

Consider myself an original follower of the FIRE movement...so I'm flush with cash and income producing assets

Verizon was excellent while it lasted...i only hope others realize that corporate America just isn't that into their workers...get what you can but always be prepared to be let go.

I am loving life! Left on 12/28. Since then I have been working on getting healthy after much stress the last few years at Verizon. I check this site like others to keep up with what’s happening at VZ. This site and post are raw. I started checking this site while I was still working at VZ because the information was more reliable then “up to speed” propaganda.

Left on 3/22 after 36 years. Rolled a sizeable 401K/MCI Pension into an IRA that I plan to leave untouched for at least 2 years. I also put about 200K in accessible cash in the bank between the VSP Payout, and a bunch of unused vacation. As a result, I have not felt any need to look for a job anytime soon..or ever. My wife still works and has great benefits to cover us when mine run out next year. I've been enjoying getting healthy again, exercising, enjoying the outdoors , volunteering at local charity organizations, working through a "honey do" list, and sleeping very well at night due to no longer dwelling on all the ongoing customer dissatisfaction issues, the political stupidness from above and an inbox that is always full of neverending nonsense. No longer having to sit on useless conference calls all day long, I've tossed my headsets and rarely even talk on the phone for more than 5 min anymore. Heading off to the gym now. Taking my grandkids to dinner and then to see Avengers Endgame tonight. Life is great and I don't miss Vz one bit. After checking this board once or twice a week for the last few years however, I am still in the habit of checking in from time to time to see what the latest buzz is. Best to all who left and all who are still there.

Took the VSP 3/22. 14 months' pay and medical at age 64+. Happy as a pig in shiite. Even have the ol' pension to look forward to starting 8/1, right after my 65th b'day, lol.

I took VSP and left 12/28 after 24 years with VZ Wireless. I do not regret my decision at all. Like the poster said below, everything changed after the 2015 lay-off/restructuring and the company was never the same afterwards.

I have 37 working days left...Does it say anything that I am counting down the days. I CAN'T WAIT to get out of this plays. I have never done dumb well and this place gets dumber by the day. I am very grateful for what the VSP will allow me to do. I just feel bad for my friends I am leaving behind.

I left in December and still feel it was the best decision. The stress of unmeetable demands is gone. My once daily headaches are now a distant memory. I saved over the years so $ is not an issue and I’m not under the gun to find something else. I never thought I would leave VZ , but so glad I did!

I left on 12/28 after 22 years. I took a month off. Looked for a job Feb-Mar. Started a new job on 4/1, close to home, great culture. I make 20% less, but I have the buyout to make up the difference for several years. Very happy with my decision, no regrets!

Out of 4 March 22nd VSPers out of my group 3 found jobs which look comparable and one is taking some time off before looking as it is a unique opportunity to take spring/summer off with great free benefits. Due to long time in the fall given to make a decision I do not think any of them decided to leave out of pure fear of layoffs, people had time to weight long term scenarios, look for jobs and estimate what they can make outside. Undoubtedly some question their decision on both side of it but I think most of VSP decisions were very mature.

I'm not a VSP, due to it wasn't offered to sales. But I left in November after 15 years. It was best decision I ever made. Took a $40,000 pay cut and don't feel one ounce of regret. I have peace of mind and enjoying more time with my kids. Only those who fit the VZW mold are truly happy. If you're not with the in crowd it's one of the worst companies ever.

I was a VSP recipient who was off the books in March. Took a couple weeks off and started a new job on April 15th. My new job is a career change into commercial property management. So far, it is far less stressful and leaders take more of a mentor role in this company instead of ruling by fear and intimidation like Verizon leadership.

Since I am in my mid 40's, the VSP will allow me to retire about 10 years earlier than originally planned in my mid 50's. I am very grateful for the great pay and benefits I had with Verizon for 20 years. The great 401k allowed me to amass quite a retirement nest egg. I am happy to find a new good job, but really only need it to last about 10 more years as I will be happiest when I don't need to work at all.

I feel things really began to unravel quickly after 2015 at Verizon. Before that, I was proud to be a part of the company and worked very hard. It is really too bad, but I guess all good things must come to an end.

To the one who says I check this board because I am not happy: I discovered this layoff board in 2015 and it told me of the huge RIF coming that year. I even showed my director at the time and he was shocked at all the information on here. After that, this site was a great source of information on here. If you look past all the troll posts and people who post here just out of anger and frustration and the union propaganda posts, you will see relevant information that has always come to pass. It told me about the VSP before it was official. Now as an ex Verizon employee, I can't help but check back to see what else is happening, what new rumors are out there. It has nothing to do with me being unhappy, I guess it is just hard to not be curios about what is going on after you leave your job of 20 years.

Good luck to those that remain, I hope they continue to offer the 3 weeks per year to anyone impacted in the future.

I took the VSP and am totally happy and know beyond a shadow of a doubt it was the right thing to do. But I do check this board periodically because I worked for the company over 40 years and still have friends there.

The ones who are truly happy wouldn't be on this board.
