Thread regarding Sam's Club layoffs

Stepping down to PT to avoid having to close every single night.

If we choose to step down to part time instead of taking the offered FT schedule, I know we get to keep our base pay.. the question is, does anyone know what benefits we lose going to PT? Do we lose our medical insurance?

How many consecutive weeks and how many hours do you have to work where they automatically make you full time, or have they changed the rules?

As one that stepped down, I lost health insurance, but was able to keep everything else - vision and dental, critical care, accident insurance, and the extra life insurance I signed up for years ago. I lost the rate at which I was accruing PTO. I learned that given the new structure, you MUST average at least 15 hours a week or you will not get the quarterly bonus. How many hours you need to keep 'full time' status for health insurance really depends on how long you've been with the company. I would guess more than 28 at the very least, but call home office - since there is no PTC around anymore.

So you would rather have less money and benefits just because you don’t want to close?

Priorities. We all close at some point. It s---s. Things will change and jobs will open up but full time jobs are rare. Be dumb to give one up.

PTers will get between 16 to 25 a week max and that’s with open availability.

If you were hired before a certain date you must work 28 hours a week to still be considered full time and keep your insurance. When I was hired it changed, I would have to do 34 hours week to still be considered full time and keep my insurance. But with all the changes the company is doing this my affect new comers or people who started after those cut off hire dates.

Just so you know, part timers may still have to work closing shifts.

To keep medical as a pt associate you will have to average 30 per week. If you hang on until July/aug; you may get medical next year based on the fact you will have already averaged that this year. Here’s the deal—I’m hearing they are only going to let pt have about 18.

You will lose accumulating regular PTO hours, PT only get PPTO hours at 1 for every 30 hours worked. Think it thru, losing PTO time could mean giving away weeks of vacation on top of no longer getting that FT check each 2 weeks. Good luck.

If you can afford to step down to part time then why stay. if you are having to close then you must not have much senority so you cant be making that much. Alot of fast food places pay more than Sams does.

I've tried to look it up but the web site is always down and difficult to navigate anymore and we no longer have a PTC to go to for answers.

And I don't expect to pick my schedule as PT, but closing 5 nights a week EVERY SINGLE week means I'll literally never see my kid during the school year. I don't mind doing it a few times a week but EVERY SINGLE NIGHT just isn't the best situation for my family.

Thank You for your answers!

Look it up. It's not that hard. Last I heard it was 20 hrs but it's been a little while, but for assoc only, no dependents.

Unless it has changed since I left Sam's, you must average 30hrs a week over like a 12 week period in order to be eligible for medical insurance as a PT employee.
