Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

SUPERHEROES

About that recent comment made by BNY at the beginning of a town hall: 14,000-15,000 employees would be better off as just 8,000 superheroes.

Over the past several years, BNY has been steadily thinning out resources. Those that remained absorbed the work. Yet BNY continued to insist on a quota of “below expectations” ratings.

BNY also ramped up a program to acknowledge “stars”, certain people presented as exemplary in their roles. The rest of us continued to disappoint BNY.

These competitive programs resulted in lower morale and (coincidentally?) lower company performance.

If BNY only has “superheroes” of half of the employees doing all of the work, will the quotas and favoritism finally end?

Maybe I don’t want to be a BNY superhero after all.

Superheroes only stay with super companies.

When they burn out the “super stars” they’re laid off in demographically correct order. That’s been made quite clear in numerous town halls.

What happens when they burn out the “super stars”? They either quit or tune out. Then it is only a matter of time nobody cares and everything just breaks.

Pretty sure we all understand that “Superhero” has developed a quite different meaning at the Bank. Superman would have had 3 strikes before getting an interview.

I hung up my cape last month. All the layoffs, reorgs, spans/layers etc left me with a workload of at least 3 people. I got the hell out of bny and out of financial services as well. Good luck to all of you who are still hanging in there!

I'm hoping to hang up my cape with a severance package before the end of the month. My manager can pick up my work load.
