Thread regarding Sam's Club layoffs

Church

I’m a long term associate (over 20 years) and I am a team lead and I was told I have to work sundays no matter what. I also am a pastor at my church which means I’ll no longer be able to attend church. Isn’t this against the law? I thought if it were for religious reasons they were supposed to work with you?

The second you signed that job offer you waived the religious accommodations. Why do you think they needed a reply before you left the room or be forced to the bottom of the list?

They will accommodate your religion. However, if the hours are the job are Sundays you will have to take another position. You have to work in an area that has fluctuating hours and does not require Sundays. They are on the correct legal grounds with that decision.

SOP states that if you requesting a religious accommodation, that you can be exempt from working two hours before and two hours after the end of service. If service is over at 12pm you can be scheduled at 2pm to work. I would check the Wire to see if this policy is state specific.

If Sam Walton were still alive, you would still be attending church on Sunday's.

Who should we call? My gm is aware of my issue (I’m the original poster) and isn’t helping at all. Do we call the new open door number or someone or somewhere else

I'm fighting right with you!!! I'm not a pastor. But I do lead a children s group at church on Sundays! And I've been told the same. Check out the wire under religious accommodations policy. Clearly states they cant do this. I I havnt brought it up to anybody else yet. Let us know how it goes!

Yes. The company doesn't like you mentioning the word lawyer. I have been threatened with repercussions for using the word. I live in a state where it is legal to record your superiors when they are reprimanding, or giving instructions to , you. Check with your labor board about options concerning this issue.

Do a quick Google search. There are laws but I'm not sure if they vary by state. That would be pretty low if they do not make accommodations for you.

I'll tell you this. When they restructured management, my manager took them to court and Sam's lost. Goes to show you they are breaking some laws. It's just if people have the courage to do their homework and push back.

Good luck!! Let us know what happens.
