Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Gravy Train is Over

For many, the gravy train is over. Few employers can match Ford's salary structure in a low-cost state like MI. Also, the great pension benefits (how many companies have a supplement for those over 55? until Social Security kicks in)?

~Bonuses

~Stock options (stock price is up).

~Vehicle deals

~401-k match plan

Its been a good ride, but you need to get the ship going faster and when there is a bunch of dead weight in Dearborn, it is time to trim cost!

Some great postings here. I'm thinking about a starting a lawn service. My neighbor was just laid off from GM a few months ago as an engineer and we figure we can make a few bucks. Please contact me if you need a lawn service. 1-800-UP-Fords

I'm going to assume we probably have lead pipes too. Think I'll just go to costco and load up on pallets of water to drink while at work....

Our building has no hot water. All the bathrooms have warning signs saying the water is VERY hot. The water is ice cold in the winter, and coolish in the summer.

I asked union plumber why we had no hot water. He said the building’s system was infected with Legionella Bacteria. They had tried to k--l it by raising the water temperature, nothing seemed to eradicate it so they shutoff the boiler for the hot water. His tip was never to use the hot water spigots in the building as in the summer the Legionella Bacteria multiplies again in the “hot” water system.

The water fountains water in the building have a chemical afterburn. Again, they are treating the drinking water to attempt to k--l the Legionella Bacteria, which has an uncanny ability to adapt and thrive.

The only reason we get nothing is due to increased competition and a very very very select group of people who have almost all the wealth now. We are all just minions working for " The Man or The Woman nowadays"!

Best post ever. The gravy train was great 20 years ago. Full pensions with supplement the best health insurance for not only free, you’d get “flex dollars” in the thousands to cover extra coverage or take as another bonus, huge bonuses for even GSR-levels, unlimited free training and tuition reimbursement, upward mobility every year it seemed, and have to do nothing but show up a few hours a day and kiss managements arse.

Now it’s basically a prison with horrific healthcare, the worst political culture you’ll see in any company, nothing but negative press, a single digit stock price, with yearly layoff threats. Take an offer on the 21st if you are lucky. I feel sorry for those who have to stay.

They think their car sales are down wait until they get rid of everyone there. Half their customer base almost will be gone. Those car benefits really helped to boost their sales numbers. Overall Ford's outlook is bleak. Outside of Michigan and then locally around where plants are located their numbers are horrible.
