Incentives to stay

Does Verizon ever offer raises or other incentives to keep people who are planing to quit? I haven't heard about this until a coworker who was on his way out decided to stay - and while he didn't tell us exactly way, he did say he got a better offer from Verizon.

What's that all about?

I was offered promises over the phone by my VP when I turned in my notice. When I replied via email (with a copy to HR Business partner and Marc Reed) with details of what had been promised and that I would accept that offer and stay, I was called within 30 minutes by an HR Director who claimed the VP had no authority to make those promises. I left as planned and I'm surprised that VP is still there.

The decision for Who stays and/or who goes was outsourced. That’s the truth. Think about that for a moment. Haha

HR doesn’t care about keeping Great Talent. All they seem to care about is replacing High Salaried employees with Low Salary replacements

Yes. Here is a brief summary of their offering:

Verizon: Please stay so you can be miserable, overworked and always looking over your shoulder for the next RIF. All the talent either quit because of excessive RIF'ing or they all took the VSP, so also if you stay you get to work with these turds who are just milking whats left of the gravy train. Interested?

It's possible (although unlikely), if HR agrees that s/he has a specific skillset that would be hard to replace. That said, it WOULD be HR making that decision, not the manager. Martha stated on the CAO call this morning that over 1000 promotions have occurred as a result of VSP backfills.

I don't know a out that. They made it perfectly clear, and we should all know by now that NO ONE is indispensable. What they offered was a pretty big incentive to LEAVE......The only way I could see this is if his direct manager doesn't want him to go and offered a bigger bonus, at the expense of the others in the group because as far as raises go, it's all up to HR. Ratings mean nothing.

The incentive is. Don’t let the door hit you in the ass
