"I'm not buying them to destroy them..." Might not be your intent, but that's what's going to happen...
Schroeter certainly was sent to his current job to get groomed for the CEO position (same path as Ginni). The problem is he hasn’t grown a thing since taking it over. In fact his market segment has struggled. Given that, and wall streets acknowledgement of the financial games that have been played at IBM, I wouldn’t bet on him. Will the board hold that against him? Perhaps. IBM has been on the hire from the outside to get new blood and new ideas into IBM. Tell me what in Schroeters background makes him the right guy to manage a cloud company? It’s very hard given his background to make that equation close. His back ground lends itself far better to managing the possible low margin spinoff portions of IBM. My bet is Jim as he is new blood, the right age, has cloud/services experience, and is part of the LINUX club. IBM is infatuated with LINUX right now
Her pledge expires one year after the deal is sealed. Then watch the hats change to blue 🧢!
I agree that’s it is unlikely that Jim will get the CEO job. Martin Schroeter is currently being groomed for that position and he was the former CFO... so expect the accounting schemes to continue and for IBM to go nowhere any time soon.
While IBM definitely needs new leadership, starting with a new CEO, I don't see them giving Jim the job. He's running a company 1/23 the size of IBM that essentially only operates in one business segment (software support contracts). Unfortunately another lifer, probably one with an accounting background with no tech experience, will probably be tapped.
If we are very lucky, we might be red washed instead.
IBM says that every time they acquire a company and it is never true.
If the Red Hat CEO becomes IBM CEO there will be no blue washing of Red Hat. We can all only hope Jim will replace Ginni the Eagle and make IBM great again.
They will absolutely remain an independent company. For 1 year. In year 2, the blue washing will start. By the end of year 3, there will be hardly anything of Red Hat left - leadership will be gone, most employees will be gone, the product teams will be dispersed/absorbed throughout IBM. We've all seen this story before.
A bizarre comment and tacit admission that previous companies HAVE been destroyed by IBM.
Ginni lives, IBM dies.
