Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

I knew it was too good to be true

I guess that break we had in layoffs was really too good to be true. I knew something like this was bound to happen - just when we relaxed a bit thinking we are safe at Oracle, they threw something like this at us.

And now we are back to sleepless nights and stressing over what's going to happen in the future. Basically, back to where we were for the past several years.

exactly. I'm also at my fourth interview with AWS, and if things continue there will be another 2 before actual hiring.

when I got hired by Oracle, I made two interviews, second one just being the HR officer explaining the contract and the benefit and asking to sign.

Real companies do proper checking. Unlike Oracle, they don't just hire anyone with a pulse.

Four is pretty standard at AWS, Microsoft and Google.

Fourth interview?!??? That’s a ridiculously long drawn out recruiting process for any company that really values and needs “cloud talent”. Sounds like you are heading right back into the maw of a huge faceless, driven by KPIs style company. Good Luck.

You have skills that Oracle's competitors value.

Personally I don't mind if I get laid off. Just finished my fourth interview with a real cloud vendor so chances are I'll be resigning before the end of the FY anyways. It would be nice to get a payout and some extra time off beforehand.

If you're stressing over layoffs etc then you should update your resume and go talk to other cloud or software vendors. They value your skills and experience. They pay well and have good benefits. They have great cultures. They want you on their team. Talk to your friends who work there and ask for a referral. It's handy to have a Plan B during turbulent times. It relieves a lot of pressure.
