Age discrimination

Why are most of the people being laid off above a certain age? What I'm seeing is a clear case of age discrimination - and yet I don't see anybody talking about it. Why is that? If nothing else, media should be on this - and we are not hearing a peep.

Is there anything that can be done?

They are cutting anyone who they can find ,older the better.. it's crazy there is no strategy they are cutting people to protect their own jobs in Management ..

The layoffs are definately targeted at older folks & opens them up to age discrimination suits - complain to the board - Charlie doesn’t care about getting sued. The media only cares about news that gets them ratings - age discrimination that’s not in a lawsuit is not salacious enough to cover.

On Jan 14 when my salvation arrived I took the trouble to add up all the numbers. Seemed like the lay-off group averaged 53 in technology and the”everyone else” group was 47. Is that enough to constitute systemic discrimibation ?

Media has been paid by the buckets of $$$ to not report the same it's pretty simple , that's why u see most of the news in small publications and newspapers and not in the biggies

It saves them money on the healthcare and sick days that they believe older people will use. Although I haven't taken a sick day in 5 years. I was Stupidly dedicated.

Are you saying that you are privy to the statistical analysis of each layoff pool? Because if you are not, then you have no way of knowing what the composition actually is.

Lots of 50+ age crowd was laid off .. they want to hire younger / cheaper workers as Chuck thinks they bring more dynamic to the org.. his view not mine.. geez !

Age discrimination is so common in corporate America that it has become widely accepted as "unwritten" HR policy. The main-stream media doesn't give a rat's behind about it because they are working 24/7 to help minorities get jobs and promotions.
