Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

Subaccounting - WFH debacle

mid-2018 we were told that to get ahead of the changes that BNY was implementing for WFH (which really meant that BNY wanted to eliminate this) we were to be in an office at least three days each week. Later in 2018 that changed to be four days per week. BNY did have a request form that if you as an employee felt that you wanted only three per week (and for those based at home no one knew if these employees were going to be forced into an office or even eliminated) you could fill out the form.

For some of us we were told a story that was simply a scare tactic. We were told that if you filled out the request form that we might be put on a list for potential layoff. When you then start hearing of other groups filling out the form and being accepted - you know for a fact that certain managers were either told to give that story or they themselves don't like WFH.

No matter, Charlie Scharf had to backtrack (due not to his backwardness of his policies but rather simply his "miscommunication") that we were to go back to what we were doing mid-November 2018. That's okay, but why bother with a benefit that is a solid success within our business line?

Again, the morale is lousy. No one knows what is going on. Very little real information is provided. Thanks to the great work of BNY executive management (especially Charlie Scharf) they are destroying a great business that was built up over many years.

Yes, thanks to Ranko's great management.

LOCAL management required us to start new WFH policy in advance, to hopefully avoid something even worse, they said. Then came the corporate form and the (local) 1-day deal to avoid the form. Then CEO put the WFH forms on hold, but local management said hey not so fast, they LIKE having more people in the office.

I think we got SCAMMED, and by LOCAL management, not CEO this time.

LOCAL management is also responsible for the chaotic reorganization of their teams. What you see on paper is either NOT our reality for some, or worse yet for others is their NEW reality.

Can’t blame that all on CEO. LOCAL management took questionable policy directives and implemented them in their own incompetent - or sadistic - way.

Same thing here. Tried to do what he said in email but basically forced to one day max.

This is very unfortunate and sad to hear but I can’t say I am surprised.

Charlie does not think of this as a people business but likes to think of us as a tech company. Not sure this view is based on reality but that’s his view.

We were also “quietly” told only 1 day max in technology

Charlie sent out an email to return to November agreements but it seems as management was told behind closed doors something different. Meaning no WFH, or down to 1 day depending on senior management. So regardless what Charlie has said to employees via email, clearly he has told management something different. Clearly one big lie!
