Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Should we expect more layoffs for the same product at the same location?

A bunch of people in my product (OMC) got laid off today where I am (HQ). I and my immediate team were spared.

Does that mean that layoffs will not be coming our way again very soon (this quarter at least)? Or does Oracle have a history of doing successive layoffs within the same org at the same location (say, next week)?

"California has its own WARN act."

The WARN act was in place with this round of layoffs, that is why people got 60 days of pay/benefits before severance kicks in. They keep paying you for 60 days but deny you access to the building and network so you are technically still an employee and you were given 60 days notice that your employment is being terminated.

It's possible for omc, there is absolutely no direction for many teams.

Some OMC survivors have been that they will be working on shutting the product down, and to expect another March 21 in six months. Look on the bright side - you get half a year to work on your skills.

California has its own WARN act. IIRC it is triggered when more than 50 employees are laid off. You should look it up.

FYI, we are (at least in our site, Santa Clara) are technically employees for 60 more days, then we will receive severance - though we have no physical, network access during those 60 days. So, maybe the WARN act be have been triggered.

I'm sure the powers that be at Oracle carefully limit the number impacted at any particular U.S. site to ensure they don't run afoul of the WARN act - which requires 60 days notice in circumstances where a large number of employees AT A SINGLE EMPLOYMENT SITE are impacted. No notice is required if less than 500 employees at a single site lose their jobs AND the total is less than one-third of the total active workforce at that site.

Another layoff next week? Not likely. Another one in 6-12 months? Could happen.
