It's just pitiful that they'll spend tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars on unnecessary capital improvements on a property they might not even own but they won't invest a penny on their own employees. IMHO an actual reward from an organization that values money so greatly will have some monetary value, otherwise it's an empty gesture if not an actual insult.

I am in finance. Received a gold chalice and a $5k bravo for the RIF I coordinated. Presented by Shaun Z. Nice to be recognized by the company for my hard work.

Not an engineer but along the same lines have been told " you will get good exposure for that" and "you deserve to pat yourself on the back" in lieu of any other reward. I have heard these phrases more than once. The Bravo system is used and $100 max. I turned a person in my group for a $250 award for a lot of extra work he did and boss denied it. I have received certificates - "pieces of paper" for things but all are either in boxes/ lost or trash. The older you are these just become meaningless.

I have two. The bronze plates are very nice :). When I left my previous employer their gave me an engraving beer tankard with a glass bottom. At least I can use it for quaffing some ale. Another employer gave me a watch. It sure is handy for telling the time. The wife won't serve me dinner on my engineer plate, so I'm bummed.

  1. You just get a bronze plate with your name on it.

I have 5 of them around here somewhere in a closet. I didn’t get anything for any of them over 32 years. I got a PIP either right after or a year after one of them; didn’t matter because there was a pay freeze going on anyway.

OP, at this point what could you possibly get that would keep you from laughing out loud in your bosses face, a gift card?

I received two bronze plates and two technical achievement awards while at Honeywell. The outstanding engineers awards had no monetary component but the tech awards were $5k each. When I left Honeywell unexpectedly over 4 years ago the group was devastated and any good engineers left headed for the door.

I had 6 of those plaques in my cube. Each represented hundreds of hours of overtime, usually unpaid. Told to take all personal stuff home with impending move to open seating. I threw the plaques in the trash rather than store them in the attic. No chance I am taking a picture of my kids off the wall for those things. All that unpaid overtime would have been better spent on family. Do you job and worry more about family than plaques.

I received no monetary award with the bronze looking dinner plaque. Unfortunately it has my name on it so I can't sell it on eBay. It is a worthless door stop now.

Elbonians don't get plaques or any other kind of recognition. Once in the elbow, always a slug.

I received one several years ago, and it turned out to be a bronze looking dinner plate plaque. Nothing else.

Back then our site was allowed to distribute two outstanding engineer awards. Now the cheap-os only allow one. On second thought if we were able to distribute two, then the same folks would be getting too frequently since we literally have 50% of our census. We’ve lost a lot of good talent over the years...

I knew a Power Supply Engineer . He had like 5 plaques .... Then one day he told management on a project that he had to take a trip to see his ailing father . The dipsh%t manager told him he could not leave cuz schedule is critical on the project to get into production. That engineer went anyway on that unlimited vacation and told the leader he's quiting . Which he did. He was p-ss-d. We lost a good engineer. Those plagues don't mean squat . You kill yourselves to get what ? a shirt? A plaque to put on headstone or for your widow to cherish? You worked all that free OT at the expense of your family.

I can relate to that thru the QFE or quest for excellent awards. Other than a nice shirt for a local award that was it. One year our team won local site first place award and made it to the national contest. We got no bucks for it and just another shirt and paid expenses to the national contest.

I got it twice and do not recall getting anything other than an embossed plaque. The first one came with a dinner for two at a nice place. The other one came with lunch in a gymnasium. Am looking at one of those plaques right now, and the other one is lost. After you leave that place, they don't mean very much.
