Thread regarding Sam's Club layoffs

Applying for a manager position

I’ve applied for one of the lower management positions at Sam’s Club. The job sounded good to me and I was satisfied with what was offered, but now that I see the posts on this board I see that people who work those positions speak with a strong degree of dissatisfaction about working on those positions and that there is a strong degree of uncertainty on those positions. Is that the general opinion, or did my fear come from the opinions of a few dissatisfied people?

All good advise don’t do it it, and it will drain you and is not a good healthy career. Sams is on their way out.

Dont go for management. If you havent realized by now...Sams is downsizing because they are being sold off from walmart. You heard it here first folks...rhis is all to look good for the buyers next year. And if any of u want to say this is not true..check back in a year.

I was an assistant for 3 years. A lot of your happiness is dependent on how busy the club is. I've worked in $160M/year club and I've worked in a $45M/year club. In the busy club I probably averaged about 65 hours/week vs the scheduled 50 hours in the slower club. I reccomend to any associate who wants to be a manager that it's not worth it unless you are strictly using it as a resume builder.

I've been with the company for 11 yrs and I would never take a management position. That is the opinion of many.

Now that doesn't mean you will feel the same. You could love it...

People are so dissatisfied with the company these days because there have been so many huge changes and hits. They have taken away almost every single thing that showed us appreciation. People need appreciation. I don't care what some of the macho guys come on here saying. They'll tell everyone to s--- it up and quit complaining, but usually those are the newer people who haven't experienced what a lot of us have. If they were in a good relationship, and the other person suddenly took away all the good things they use to do, they would be upset also.

The company now only cares about their shareholders. That's it. They will do anything to make them happy. Usually that involves sacrificing their associates.

I could go on and on about this place, but I'm just going to stop.

Good luck to you! Hopefully you can make a difference, and not get s---ed in like the rest of management. It's your associates that make your company succeed. Treat them right and they will do the same for you.
