Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Negotiating severance amount

Ran into an article that said that we might be able to negotiate our severance (not Oracle specific, just a general article.) Does this apply to Oracle? If it does, how exactly would an employee go about initiating these negotiations?

Sounds like an unlikely option to me, but it doesn't hurt to try.

Most likely no. Take the money and move on.

Even if you did negotiate more, it would be marginal. The risk of losing it all is not worth it. Why bet a pound for xtra 3oz?

I was able to negotiate mine. They tried to package my departure “fired with cause” so they could hide the RIF reporting. I was never placed on an improvement plan or was told of any issues. Quite the opposite I had documentation from my manager on how well me and my team were performing and hitting targets higher than other teams. I was one of the oldest team members and highest paid. I was able to add an additional 3 weeks of severance to my package.

You will need a good lawyer and some very good pictures of some very senior people doing some very bad things. Go get them tiger!

Actually it can hurt to try.

Good redundancy packages are not mandatory. You could be given nothing. So if you ask the wrong person or ask the in wrong way you may very well find yourself in a bad position.

No. It doesn’t help. Oracle is not end of life. Take the money and go, there is a better and greater world outside of Oracle
