Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

More layoffs in April?

Is it true we are having more layoffs in April? I thought Nike was doing really good lately - why would we need any more layoffs right now?

Not part of procurement. Which costing team? The costing team successfully pilot the new costing framework in Taiwan, then being replaced by the system right away.

Thanks hnnh, though that’s awful news for those affected.

Can you elaborate more though, which costing team? Part of procurement?

Posted 8/31/17, well after 6/15/17 - when the first round of people were walked off campus:

Don't look to this WARN site for forewarning.

"As part of that restructuring, NIKE, Inc. undertook workforce reductions in July and is

now implementing an additional round of workforce separations at its facility located

at One Bowerman Drive, Beaverton, Oregon 97005. We presently expect that these

workforce reductions will be permanent. The entire facility is not being closed.

NIKE expects that employment separations related to this round of reductions will

occur on or about September 30, 2017, followed by accompanying notice pay and the

opportunity to receive severance. Approximately 255 employees were affected in

July, and at present, approximately 490 additional employees are expected to be

affected. Bumping rights are not available for affected employees, and affected

employees are not represented by a labor organization."

If u go the warn site the last lay-off warn was posted 8/31. Basically the day the layoff started. A document is posted and time stamped.

How new is the law about notifying employees of a lay-off? The layoffs in 2017 were a rumor circulating at Nike before it happened but there was never a formal communication or warning from the employer.

In Oregon, any large employer that intends to layoff more than 100 people is required to provide a 60-day notice to everyone employed by that company.

Since no such notice has been given, there’s your answer. Next time there’s a significant layoff, everyone will know about it at least 60 days in advance.

As for smaller layoffs, hard to say. Nike is evolving constantly which means sometimes old jobs go away. But again whenever a large layoff is planned...you will definitely know about it at least a couple months in advance.

Rumor has it the layoffs/reorg will occur in the next 30-60 days. A lot of behind the scenes stuff going on with an "outsource manager" on the payroll.

I don’t know of any plans for layoffs, unless there is a particular group that is going to be disbanded (which, again, I know nothing about).

Nike usually does the mass layoffs during extended downturns, which isn’t now.
