Furloughs were always present in this industry and It’s within the rights of the company to perform them. However, I suspect that UP is using furloughs as an instrument to get people to quit on their own, or forcing them to find other jobs so the company doesn’t have to pay them severance. I mean, It’s one thing to be temporary furloughed, but we all know there are few employees that are returned.

Maybe people should start talking to their representatives in their respective states. If we don’t make this as public as possible, no one will hear us. With up lying about the employees “being onboard” and no one publicly challenging that narrative, EVERYONE will believe it. Shine a spotlight on their treachery. Maybe then the government, even on just a local level will start a public dialogue and blow the lid off their misdealings. You can’t be heard, if you don’t speak up.
They have pretty much always told us to just quit, and that there was a stack of us(new applications) on the desk that is up to the ceiling,as one of our many of our former managers put it. Seems to be more pressure now than ever to "just leave". One would think the word would eventually get out about how thet treat their people.
I think people were already quitting on their own in large numbers. The scam is when they furlough people they just want to fire for various reasons and then hire someone to replace them instead of eliminating the position.
