Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

Will BNYM rehire old employees?

I'm just wondering if people who were laid off this (or any other) time can return to BNYM at some point in time (after the severance period runs out, of course?)

I'm not talking about returning to the same position - I know that would defeat the purpose - but in some other capacity?

Yes they will rehire. Not 40+ for anything high profile though. They want fresh (inexperienced) blood for any coveted roles. Leave any career experience longer than 10 years ago off of your CV to be considered for anything worthwhile.

@niq+YibQg48, you nailed that one clearly on the head. Got to love it and you just made my day. Big grin on my face and spitting out my drink, lol.

@OP+YibQg48 why would you want to go back to should a poorly run company? Best to look elsewhere because if you got severed once you the odds of it happening again are pretty good. Leave well enough alone and find work at a REAL firm that gives a cr-p about it's employees.

40 or above? Heck no, mid 50’s and above. 40 year olds with talent and experience are coveted hires and they represent e a huge gap in the organization. But why would they apply?

2olc - most people are aware, but for the sake of clarity by "older", you mean anyone age 40 or above.

Old, yes. Older, no.

My severance --- excuse me, SUB ---- is running out in a few weeks. I'd really like to get rehired. I can bring enthusiasm to the workplace and I know I would be a valuable asset. BTW, if I get laid off again, do I get another 12 weeks?

The package says you can apply and work for the company again if you are still receiving sub. You’re considered a re-hire if you come back before your sub is exhausted. You’re re-employed if you come back after exhaustion of sub pay.

I know someone that was laid off, then got a better job with a different business unit of BNY. She had twenty years with the company and wanted to keep her vacation, and had no problem working for a business unit that values her. Of course, that was before the current CEO micro management of line employees. She might have a different opinion of BNY these days... :-(

Laid off a few years back. Rehired about a year later. Laid off a second time this year. Counseling is not working so far, so I'm seeing a third return.

If you were laid off and are looking to return you really should consider going to counseling.
