Thread regarding Whole Foods Market Inc. layoffs

WFM doesn't learn lesson and opens a tiny store

Why do we bother opening little weird stores with unique features? How are we supposed to streamline when all the stores are different sizes with unique features?

I predicted the demise of 365 right when amazon bought WFM...it diluted the brand. glad there's good business minds @ AMAZON.

It’s an option, period. Especially for those like me whom don’t want to deal with blindly wandering customers who leave their carts in WB as they shop the cereal aisle while obnoxiously brokering a deal on their iPhone as if they’re the star of some reality show. An option, for those of us who actually have some where to be other than “seen” in WFM shopping. For those of us who don’t want to navigate the myriad of “Sample Sows” making dinner out of 16 slices of sumos while using their kids as a Shame Shield (“...are you suuure you don’t want a another Johnny??”). Yes, I am all for these “bodega-type” stores if it means I don’t have to deal with the entitled Zombie-Disneyland, WFM stores have become.

If 365 stores were such a wonderful idea ,then why did they all close? Jeff Beso wants to make money, knows how to make money and saw 365 as a waste of time, labor and money. He has a no nonsense approach to business. How refreshing!

365 should have been more convenience-sized. It was somewhere in-between.

From 2016...

"These 365 concept stores seem to be an option for Whole Foods to start being more competitive in a now crowded space. The refreshing concept could help to drive new interest, and lower prices for consumers could drive more overall sales. But especially helpful for Whole Foods' bottom line is that these stores will have lower operating costs.

Everything about these 365 stores is meant to be simpler, which should help Whole Foods to cut costs. Each store will be smaller than parent stores, which will mean less spent on leases and other land operating costs. Because the stores are more of a standard design, they can be developed with less cost compared to the unique design of many parent stores, and Whole Foods can also get them up and running faster. "

Why stop here then. Lets open smaller stores that are easier to run with less overhead. Something like this...

It could be the next big thing

They are now making money in a space that couldn't support a large format store. You must never have heard of Wawa.

I sincerely wish WF had been in the business of making money instead of making team members feel good about themselves all the time. We would have probably survived and not sold. You people that brought up all the weak ideas that we had to try and make work are so right. Every hairbrained idea doesn't have to be instituted into what we are....well now, what we were.

What about pubs? Everyone loves to relax with a pint in an uncomfortable brightly lit cold room while hearing constant pages for shifty.

How about the beauty spas, outdoor venues, and food trucks. How about we find a good way to run a natural grocery store instead of things people don't want.

Thinking outside the box ? Remember the wellness club that was a great idea too🙄It’s a stupid idea and whoever cake up with it should have been told to be quite.

Let's hope they sell enough salad to cover the overhead. If WF owned the empty space they could have leased it to someone non competing business. If not, then why a salad business ? Not going to cover overhead.

Next to a fully operational store? Why would they draw customers away from a big store? So they could buy less?

it was underutilized space for years- about time they did something with it. it's next door to a fully operational store so it was actually a good use of space- this was Nicole thinking out of the box- doing something that made sense for this location. it's not a trend or a new format at this point- let them enjoy the win!!

This is a prime example of why WF needs to do d--g testing at Corporate. All you tms that have been with WF awhile know exactly what I am talking about. Hairbrained ideas that make no sense. That's what wore us out trying to make ideas successful, that had no chance of being successful, because we didn't want to hear how WE failed.
