Verizon Retention Problem

Did you know most new hires leave either at or before their third year? That women leave at a 2:1 rate compared to men? Lots of posts here from long time VZ workers. I know many resent Millennials. Its really intrinsic in our culture as a company. I've tried giving this company my best, but have been treated something awful by upper management. I've met some great people, but once my retirement match vests at my 3rd year anniversary: I'm out.

No need to wait 3 years for your 401k match to vest, just volunteer for VSP like I did after 1.5 years and you get the match.

First of all if you think IT matters, it doesnt. Your a joke! Go for a new job because 10 year olds in India will be better than you are at your job. If your in the 5G dept. Good luck! We all know how thats doing! If tour in Network your safe for a year or 2 until they outsource your job to smaller cheaper companies!

I’ve seen a lot of resumes and 2-3 years seems to be how long people stay before finding something else. If you don’t get promoted by then I guess it’s time to move somewhere that might have a better job.

@1uhh except for the executives. And the majority of them are over 50 and they don't come cheap.

My experience was only at VZW for twenty years and not too many other companies find that to be a value. Cannot work in another industry in NJ like pharm or banking.

Verizon wants a company filled with cheap temp workers and outsourced labor. Stay at Verizon longer than 2 years, and you are practically unemployable.

I am not surprised. More surprised they stay that long. No loyalty. Lack of real leaders. A company to put on your resume and move on.

VZ cracks me up with their articles and videos and eweb rolling slides that all display their "young" workforce. Most of those younger employees (if they really exist) won't be here in 5 years. Sorry Verizon, but you are no Google or Facebook and you never will be. You are a telecom company and VZ 2.0 is not going to change the culture and the younger generations want no part of the nonsense. They really have no vested interested here. Get a few bullet points on the resume and move on.

Millennials are 38 and under now, and Gen Z is already entering the workforce. Boomers have been retiring for years and Gen X is tiny. We'll be the majority of workers soon.

People leave for a lot of reasons. Those of us who cut our teeth in the 'old phone company' still have the ump to stay and hang on. Those coming in young to the company understand all to well that Verizon has no obligation or care about there long term career with Verizon. So the new people come in and get 3 or 4 years of experience and leave, taking that experience to another company that will treat them better. No amount of BS propaganda from the company will change that face. We work in a toxic environment and those of us that have been here for years are waiting for retirement.

It is all to bad that Verizon continues to operate with the old RBOC management mentality. They want young and eager people here but those same young people are not willing to put up with the nonsense and antagonism from management.

There won't be anymore entry level IT soon enough. All outsourced.

My salary is 40-50% less than my peers.

People can only get ripped off for so long

They really need to increase the IT salaries for entry level. While the senior people's salaries are comparable, the entry level salaries are a joke

But, but, without me and my 20+ years of experience Verizon will fail! You millenials just want to cry all day while us boomers sit around and share memes on Facebook about millenials! Skinny jeans!!!!
