Who gets to decide who should be laid off? Managers/Directors or higher level management?

Favoritism, cost plus misogeny and ageism
Most cases the managers were not able to explain why a certain member is chosen. Nor could anybody deduce on what criteria a person is chosen. This leads to anxiety.. and every employee starts fearing for his job, which will lead to mass exodus.. In a industry where there are many jobs available, I don't think anybody will like to continue in a sinking ship..
Imo, age discrimination is more likely than s-x discrimination, especially at a company like Oracle that has (had?) more older developers than its peers.
Any gender discrimination possibility? Out of the retained ppl from each team how many are women?
Plain and simple, It is political or favoritism in play.
This is why top performers are let go and poor performers get to stay.
who said H1Bs are safe, if they are in a defunct product or business unit they will be the first to be axed. Paying 10k for an attorney is cheaper for O than to pay 140 K salary per annum on useless products which don't make money, MOST of the products there are useless!
I am a VISA guy laid off in that Mar, May 21 layoff!
My understanding is that in every group or org there is a running staff ranking. When a certain percentage is designated for RIF, that % is applied to the targeted group from the bottom towards the top.
managers choose employees who are not in their favors... and they name it poor performance. We clear so many rounds to enter oracle and work hard.manager and his manager discuss it with all politics.... recently my team member faced it.. i know the full story and process...its just politics ...
If you are H1B, your job is safe
