Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Fields was not a good CEO. He undid a lot of what Mulally did and got us in the mess we are currently in. Hackett's handling the layoffs poorly, but we definitely don't want Fields back.

While Hackett is potentially the worst CEO in the history of the auto industry, this is all on Bill Jr. He's the one who insisted on promoting his Ann Arbor crony. All of the credibility he built up from hiring Alan has been destroyed.

I always thought that Mark Fields was well-spoken and knowledgable about the auto industry - and miles ahead of Hackett in terms of understanding what the core business is about. As for his lack of vision for mobility and AV - I think he knew that AV was a pie in the sky dream and that the mobility vision wasn't going to pan out as none of the mobility companies (Uber, Lyft, etc) have been profitable. It's a shame that he was ousted for someone like Hackett.

I hope the rumor that Hackett was chosen as CEO because he sold furniture to the Tech companies in Silicon Valley is just a rumor. I would be horrified if anyone thought that Hackett would make a qualified CEO just because his company sold furniture to the Silicon Valley Tech companies. That would like saying that the Starbucks barista who works at WHQ would make a good CEO because he or she sold a lot of coffee to the auto exec who work there.

Hackett needs to go. Ford will not survive with a Hackett as leadership.

I heard Fields was fired because he screwed up negotiation with Google on future AV development and he "lacked a vision for mobility"

on the other hand, Hackett had a good relation with silicon valley because he sold a lot of furniture to IT companies where they need ergonomic chairs and big desks for their multiple big monitors
