Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

Any ideas on how to go out on stress leave? My manager is saying I can't. UP is overworking me. IT dept. is chaotic.

Can I use stress leave as an agreement employee? Do I just call EAP and get assigned a counselor like the non-agreement folks?

You can go out on stress leave. People do it all the time. When you make the call to EAP say its messing with your sleep, your family life and your appetite. They will approve you for two weeks and assign you a counselor. The counselor does not do a whole lot for you but tell him the same thing about the sleep and the family life. He will just give you a diagnosis of occupational stress. You stay out until he and you say you are ready to some back. This is for non agreement positions. Your boss will only know that you are out for a medical leave and he is not even supposed to ask you why. I know because I went out for 5 weeks. I was the 7th person to call in and go out on stress in 7 days. Counselor told me to find another job and I am currently looking and moving on. Other commentators are right, it will end your career but I don't care about a career with UP anymore.

I work in IT and haven't seen a 40 hour work week in years! Many of us are working way more then that and are not getting paid overtime! Why....because it is expected. We are also on call 24×7. Just because our jobs aren't as physical demanding doesn't mean we don't work hard and deal with a lot of stress. People on here need to stop putting others down especially when you have no clue what each job deals with.

You wouldn’t know what a hard days work really is. You only work 8 hours a day, 40 hours a week, it’s not like you’re doing anything physical. Put your big boy pants on and quit complaining, you’re lucky You have a job.

That’s heeeee larious! IT can f people all day long, left and right, play favorites, use them, ignore them and addaboy their buddies. Maybe try complaining about management,

Then quit!

Then be begged to come back, with a raise nonetheless!

Get a promotion into management!!! And get another laid off who actually cared about managing and wanted to be there.

Now that’s the IT way!

And that’s the IT I know and see everyday.

“UP, what a great job and great retirement “

Post ID: @Ymwwz01-lmp sound a bit too knowledgeable here, must be the manager? Just file s-xual harassment and kick that guy hard as you can there next time he so "demanding" the stress will stop.

I agree with xpu. Your days are numbered if you take leave. Better to update your resume and get out of there.

Call the EAP people and talk to a nurse. It isn’t up to your manager whether you take stress leave. It is part of your short term disability insurance if you’re nonagreement. But if you really want to do it you’re going to have to get some legitimate stuff from a doctor which isn’t hard to do, but in the meantime stop telling your manager you’re going out stress leave cause he’s working you too hard. Also be advised your career at UP is basically over once you take stress leave. Not that that is a bad thing. Just know if they don’t try and prevent you from coming back off of stress leave then you’ll never get promoted again. Once again that’s not a bad thing. Any job where people are that stressed and nobody is being shot at is probably not worth it. That’s just my humble opinion though take it for what it’s worth.

You cant go out on stress leave. It would have to be anxiety or depression. Go see a doctor and see if you can qualify.
